Might want to push back the release
Seriously. I can't see many sales given that Oblivion remake is eating all the attention right now and that sort of game is a timesink and a half.
Maybe you'll get some negativity from those who preordered if you announce a delay now but at the other hand the alternative might be your game becoming a bundle fodder. And it looks like the game is actually pretty good so it would be a shame.

Great games will sell. It wont matter that Oblivion shadow dropped. It might matter short term abit sure. But if the game turns out to be amazing then people will buy it.
The Review Embargo has already lifted, and we have less than 24 hours to go; delaying now would be a massive mistake. Bethesda + MIcrosoft were jerks for shadow-dropping Oblivion, to be sure, but at this point the most anyone can really do is not support them and buy Clair Obscur instead.

If only that were the truth.

History is filled with developers who made great games that didn't sell.

The game has already gone gold, what reason is there to delay it? Moving the release isn't going to change the sales much. Meldin has the right idea. I'm sure everything will be fine.

I mean it depends on what you mean by ''did not sell''. For example Days gone did not sell enough for playstation. But it did sell ALOT of copies.

Did not sell enough to keep the developers afloat. Which is what really matters.

True but it's all relative in terms of budget and cost of making the titles and how many developers they have. For example AC:shadows might sell 6-7 million copies and that might not be enough. While this game has from what i've heard a really small team of like 30 people. So if this game sells just a few million that might already be a success.

I think they're in decent shape already given their budget/team size and what seems to be very strong reviews (not just generic/meaningless magazines/legacy type media but some good influencers) that I think can help generate traction. It seems like it's possible the game is quite good (a few out on YT have already said they love it/masterpiece/GOTY possible? type discussion)

Current Steam Top Revenue as of this post:

1. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered
2. Counter-Strike 2
3. Steam Deck
4. Clair Obscur: Expedition 3
5. Schedule I

We'll see how it goes -- might be some short-term impact but if it's really good/fun and generates word of mouth it will be fine in the long run.

If they couldn't sell or find their own niche then they weren't great in the first place.

People are just playing Oblivion while waiting for Expedition 33 to come out, that's all.

at the end of the day, its STILL oblivion, its still outdated, old and clunky, it just looks prettier, which was already feasible with mods to the original.
There is also the fact that pushing back your release would send a pretty clear message: "we have no faith in our own product".
