Please add a option to squish the damage numbers.
I'm not really a fan of the huge damage numbers, i saw some 10k-50k damage hits in the trailers and i pretty much prefer the way Dragon Quest handles numbers, it's usually 10-20 in the early game, 100-300 in the mid game and 800-1000 in the endgame if you're a degenerate that grinds a lot and min max everything otherwise is around 700 in the end.

It gives a more simple to understand power progression

When a JRPG starts with the character doing 1k damage and then at the middle of the game the same character is doing 50k damage, it feels weird, it's too much exagerated. The numbers don't matter much.

Final Fantasy also has some nice numbers, usually capped at 9999 without limit break (some games have it, somes don't).

I just hope it doesn't reach some generic jrpgs bs numbers like 9810983213712 damage or something (only Disgaea are allowed to do this because is part of the joke)

And yes i'm assuming Clair Obscur is a JRPG so i'm comparing it with the great ones (Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy)

So much comedy gold all over Steam the past couple days.

I also don't like pointlessly large numbers.

Agreed. Whenever possible, I turn off damage numbers and even health bars because I want to enjoy the visuals and the fight.
Bro is scared of numbers in the big 25. Well, that's a new one.

I don't know, the 50k hits might've been some kind of special battle with exaggerated numbers? Like a random boss battle where a stronger character hits it and the numbers are there to tell the boss is a lot stronger than anything else until now. Looks like 9999 is the max damage otherwise. Or maybe there are going to be limit break kind of thing too like in final fantasy games. Who knows, but I'm not worried about the numbers with this game.

Read again, it's not the numbers per se. Or better yet, go play Dragon Quest.

Not to be combative, but didn't you just upend your own argument? If the numbers "don't matter much", then what does it matter if the damage-curve reaches so high?

Sorry but i won't feel satisfied with my damage unless i see numbers with several digits. The math cooks my brain to a jelly like state to where all i feel is elation to the fact that big number means big fun.

Don't take away my happiness. Go away! Even the option of it make my unhappy since i'll know it is there. It'll ruin my life. You sir/mam are a life destroyer. The equivalent of a big suck on rotting lemon. Go Away!

we literally have trailers and preview demos where you start in the 20s-50s of dmg besides big single hits that crit, many moments with a 9999 limit and just a few breaking above those, probably on a similar level as limit break in FF as you mentioned, so idk what to worry about

I’m used to playing Wizardry, with smaller numbers, and also games like Legaia 2, Star Ocean, Tales, etc. where the numbers get silly. I’m fine with it either way, tbh.

As an optional thing? That would be a balancing nightmare.

I hope so

Not necessarily, World of Warcraft has done it a lot of time before, basically it's more of a proportion thing so it's like you go from doing 1000 damage to doing 100 damage, you're still doing the same % of damage to the enemy health the only difference is the numbers showed.
