Turn-based combat?
Hi Guys,

What does it mean by turn-based combat? Is this another XCOM and XCOM 2 style game? Or only in combat/battle. And if so why only in combat/battle? Why not make it free flowing?

Thanks

It's a jrpg in the vein of older final fantasy games and the like. Seems like only combat will be turn based with some real time aspects to it.
As for "why?" because thats the type of game they wanted to make
Well, I usually don't like turn based combat but the way it's presented in the game with the real time aspects makes it appealing to me just because of the way it's presented. To me it's something new I haven't seen before.
It's turn based but with active elements to keep you engaged. Like timing button presses during a skill activation to achieve the best damage output which are pretty generous. This keeps you invested in the otherwise monotonous combat loop found in most Turn based combat games where you simple click a skill and wait for it to play out.

During the enemies turn to attack you can actively dodge or parry, with a successful parry being rewarded with a high dmg counterattack. The downside of the parry is it has a small window unlike the dodge. So you can play it safe with a easy dodge or do a high risk high reward parry. It's basically the best form of turn based.

How the hell are there people who don't know what a turn-based game is?

Yep, this right here - the younger generations were raised on tablets and smartphones and don't have a clue about how to operate actual PCs or anything more complex than that.

This is just like a few generations ago when people couldn't bake or cook from scratch, because they'd gotten used to buying boxed/packaged things like cake mix.

my college professor first term had to teach the new generation how to actually open folders.

There's not just a single type of turned-based. Civilization games are TB. XCOM is TB. FF7 is TB. All three are different types of turn-based. Someone who knows what turn-based is would know there are different kinds.

level 0 troll account, just ignore them.
it also has the tediousness of action prompts that drive me insane. pushed into waiting for a sale/mods if its popular to disable that ♥♥♥♥. Not every game needs block/parry/dodge/hit button to really hit the enemy. either make an action rpg or turn based, its a ♥♥♥♥ mechanic and half baked in every game its ever in, because it can't matter too much or the game is unplayable for most of the playerbase, but it can't be useless so a lot of useful breakpoints for damage are designed around it, which makes the game tedious either direction.
