I'm rather ashamed to admit this...
...but Clair Obscur is, like, the only thing in life I'm truly looking forward to at the moment.

Without going full-TMI, my ongoing struggle with depression and whatnot feels at times like a war I'm destined to lose one day, so it's been hard to muster an abundance of interest in things. Not to mention the general suck-itude of the world's happenings at the moment, especially here in the US. So...yeah. It seems rather pathetic that I cannot muster much excitement for anything except a video game, and yet I am fully hyped for this one. I watch all the trailers, and when new videos come out I turn around and watch the old ones again. Everything about the title screams "this is the game for me!", and while I have others on my radar, certainly, none of them remotely compare.

I'm kind of scared as-to what'll happen after I'm done playing Clair Obscur, but for now, I will relish and cling onto this passion I feel toward it.

Video games should never be your anchor in life. Ever.
No need to worry, dude! It's awesome to feel excited about something, even if it’s just a game. It shows that there are elements in your life that spark joy and passion, which is fantastic! The key now is to channel that enthusiasm into other aspects of your life.

But on the other hand.... Find something ANYTHING to live for if it gets you to the next day. Sometimes its looking forward to a game, sometimes its a lunch with a friend next week, other times its duty like you know you have to wake up in the morning to feed your pet... Life is HARD just find something to keep going

If it helps things are actually way way better in america than they have been for like 6 years. There is huge job growth, lower crime, government corruption and theft is being exposed and dealt with. The wars are being ended etc etc etc. Stay off reddit and go to the park :) Life is good buddy! Enjoy it

I agree to a point, but I've seen too many instances where this just leads to fiction becoming someone's identity above all else.

Do what you gotta do to survive today: agreed. But OP needs to be looking beyond the release of this game, or all that'll happen is the game ending (or god forbid, the game sucking) will lead to replacing it with some other game/story/etc.

Hope the game is worth your time. Even if it's turns out the game is bad, don't lose yourself when it's over. Take care.
An other game will come along OP!! And then like others said maybe its a dinner with a friend or a loved one! Maybe its a vacation! Or a job interview!!! I feel you! i also struggle! But again, even if the game sucks or when its over, dont give up!!

Even if it's just a game, it proves you're still passionate about something and that's great. No need to be ashamed OP, I hope you enjoy the game and things get better.
Hey brother (or sister), it sounds like you have a lot going on and I wanted to hopefully give some words of encouragement.

This is a lot online and vitriol rules the internet. It can even be seen in this forums where the most popular posts are those that cause division. Try not to pay too much mind to this stuff as that's what is hot right now. News outlets have done it forever which is why majority of stories you hear or see are negative ones. Gets more views/clicks/engagement. But I wouldn't call it the major reality. Just seems like that because that's all you see.

This is not pathetic and actually quite a positive sign! If video games are a hobby you enjoy then being able to get enjoyment out of them is awesome.

I don't like that kind of talk and it sounds like you are on a roller-coaster of ups and downs. I am not sure how long it's felt like this, but you are not alone in what you are going through.

I will share that in my past I have been diagnosed with clinical depression (not saying this is what you are experiencing, but i remember feeling similar to the way you are speaking), and without going through too many details, it sucks. Sometimes we are not 100% in control of our own thoughts and what is being filtered through them, but recognizing certain patterns or aspects of those thoughts occurring helps.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I also don't look forward to many games, but I do look forward to this and Death Stranding 2 and that's about it for me and game releases I've seen so far this year.

If you can spend time outside taking walks in the sun it always helped clear my mind a bit. If you have an animal it becomes even easier to want to take care of them with walks etc. If these options aren't available then try some at home exercises. These practices aren't so much for the body, but for the mind's chemicals to get reorganized a bit.

Last thought: If you are ever feeling some extreme emotions please reach out to somebody. If you feel there is nobody to reach out to then please add me on steam and feel free reach out at anytime.

Take it easy StormKnight!

hey just wanted to say its not silly to enjoy or feel excited for a game, if anything it's quite the opposite since it shows you have an enjoyment for gaming and once you beat this game another might be announced that will catch your eye. dont lose hope OP!

What a silly comment.

On topic - That's great OP, sometimes we just need something, ANYTHING to look forward to, and I'm glad you have something at least.

Nah, my comment is actually dead on. Video games are video games. Entertainment, distraction, leisure. As I said elsewhere, I've seen too many instances where this just leads to fiction becoming someone's identity above all else.

Nah, man. If this game (or any game) is bringing you joy, embrace it. It's perfectly OK to look forward to a bit of happiness in these ♥♥♥♥♥♥ times. And if this video game is doing it for you, that's great. Never be ashamed of it.

Well, video games are pretty much my only anchor.. Well games, my cat, and my wife.
There is so much more that I would love to do, but health issues mean that I can't!

I feel you totally brother.
Just like Final Fantasy 16 was the only game that touched my emotions in 2023.
We just don't get enough "close and personal" single player STORY & CHARACTER HEAVY games anymore.

Day 1 purchase for me.
