Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Someone explain what 33 means in this game?
Whereas it's likely the marketing trend everywhere lately, why they promote the numbers in the title? Someone who is aware of this could explain? Thanks!

Obviously because there have been 32 games called expedition before it.
Expedition to where? There are no other titles in Steam from these developers that would match Clair Obscur?
It's simply the name of the expedition that the story follows. After 67 expeditions that failed to save the world, Expedition 33 is the latest one to attempt do the impossible.

33, the number of the 68th expedition to stop the paintress, a being that once a year awakens and decreases the number that on a gian monolith shows! In the game prolouge it changes from 34 to 33.
No bit smarter now? Guess not, cos it's all part of the unique story of the game and I really don't want to spoil, not even the prolouge.

Edit: If you're really interested, you'll find enough lets plays I guess and by now probably even lore videos.

Right, but why particularly 33? Can be any number or even without the numbers? These trends in social media and in prices sometimes make people wonder. With no explicit meaning it's just a brain fog for the mass (IMO).
Oh man don't spoil the plot, let the kid learn to figure stuff out himself.

That's a bit of a spoiler aera but fine, 33 cos that's the number that shows on said monolith. The first expedition was called expedition zero, after that the expedition was named after the number on the monolith, starting with 99. The game tells the story of the 68th expedition, when the monolith shows 33.
Interesting! You google what are 69 and 33 and let me know if that makes any sense.

Isn't there also a nod to the 33 members of the team involved in the games production

You got the number of previous expeditions wrong.

the real reason for why they chose 33 is because of the masonic meaning of 33. if you look, you will notice 33 overrepresented all over film and TV. It's a masonic dog whistle. The Paintress is also an analogue for the 'grand architect', the god of freemasonry. The rest of us would call him Lucifer, the light bringer, hence Lumiere, the city of light, in which the game takes place. Freemasons often keep a skull on the corner of their desk, to remind them of the finitude of life. This is really narrative concept of the game.

Not much to elaborate, the dev team (sandfall Interactive) has 33 staff, 34 with Monoco the dog. That's probably why they chose that this specific expedition we play will be expedition 33.

https://www.sandfall.co/team

There's not much to think about. The French devs did not think about ♥♥♥♥ like religion, politics or whatever, they just took their staff number and designed characters taking inspiration in their staff (yes, even Gustave "Robert Pattinson" is inspired by a crew member, it has been said by the CEO).

The music composer did say some of the language in the musics is invented and there are keys to decrypt it. He hide secret messages in the paroles for player to find.

will give you the benefit of the doubt :P

There's a cataclysm erasing a bit of remaining humans each year, and every year an expedition leaves to try to solve it, and they leave behind clues and help for future expeditions. Expeditions starts counting down from 100, and you are the 67th, thus expedition 33. You can think of it as a countdown to humanity.

I think you could figure this out if you had read the description on the store page. I'll just say you really should play this game. :P
