I fear I know the answer, but... any way to save during Gestral Ascension?

I am, uh, not gifted at this sort of minigame, and I'd just made it a bit past the carousel and fell all the way back to the ground.

I assume they've deliberately blocked the autosave when you're in Gestral Purgatory, but just in case they haven't, anyone know how to force one? If this thing is literally five to ten minutes of climbing, it'd be nice to able to at least checkpoint my progress every few minutes or something.

Update: I made it to the part above the pirate ship which looked like it might have been near the end but I was playing on a controller and my cat rolled onto the keyboard and I jumped off the side.

I've used that outside of the beach but it doesn't seem like it works in-beach. Or at least, if it does, it's not giving me the icon. I guess I could test it.
