Well, all hail this boy. He said it all, especially in the "low stake story" section?

FInally people are waking up, and getting de-hynoptized. That feels food. I was so shocked i even commented below.

Fortunately they didnt manage to get tears from me for gustave's death. I didnt feel conned at the end when you realise the plot just doesn't give a f about him.

ps : he exagerates on "mediocre". Game is not mediocre. But insanely overrated and manipulative

people out here will say anything to defend the story as a masterpiece and cant hear an opposing view....theyll first say you just dont get it as if its some deep philosophical or mind bending saga....and if that doesnt work they'll just resort to name calling ...but the words they use ... quite ironical
We are all entitled to our oppinions.
If you didn't like it - fine.
But you also have to accept that a lot of people apparently did like it.
There is no right or wrong when it comes to oppinions.

I still don't get why people talk this "it's all a dream"-trash.
The whole game itself is jut "a dream".
They even allow you to decide what happens with the world.
The lyrics of every other track in the game are about painting and fake Versos and whatnot.
And those some people will tell you that something like Goethe's Faust is a great story
It' really staggering...

thats valid...but look at the reaction when you criticize the character or story

1. I like E33's story, and I think the game is great. Honestly, the characters are very likable. It might be my GOTY.

2. I've read enough books, played enough games, and watched enough anime to know that there are a lot stories that are cool and interesting at best (sometimes convoluted and needlessly filled with unearned twists at worst). E33 seems cool and interesting. Are there a few head scratchers at the end of Act 2...sure. But I just enjoy playing the game and being in the world and I want to see more. (I'm in Act 3)

3. Yes, people love to throw around words like masterpiece, perfect, and deep. Are these hyperbole? Probably. Are people overreacting about this game's narrative? Sure. But it's new and exciting and that's what people do on the internet. And for some people, this may be the game that shows them that games can be more than what they thought.

I think u got the story wrong. Gustave was A character in the story, not THE character. So his death was, to create the story. Not to lead it.

We all have opionions and nobody should tell others what theirs should be, like u did though the flower.

the like and dislike ratio on this ''randomyoutubeguy37'' tells me i am not alone.

There are poeple in this world who do not get the story or are simply insensitive through current media. And that's fine too.

Edit: lul. This yt guy just baits with his videos. holy F. Bro turns down every game he touches and shts on it. Maybe he needs help in another way.

Honestly why are you even here then? You don't own the game and clearly don't care for it, that's the point? Steam points? A couple minutes of attention?

Would be different if you actually had your own thoughts but youre just linking someone else's video and doing the equivalent of that mouth breather Asmondgold going "yup... this is true actually... yep... yeah man"
Gustave's not even in act 2, so what does he have to do with that act's ending? He's just there to help set the story up at the start. The meat of the game happens after that.

Also, you know there's a whole third act, right? You're as entitled as anyone not to like the story, but maybe you should finish the game before deciding you hate it's story?

I mean I didn't care at all about Gustave and then he gets Gustaved and I immediately thought of Lavitz who is the true bro from The Legend of the Dragoon. I haven't completed the game yet but the story is both "good" and "bad" in my opinion. The Gommage I felt something, Gustave I felt nothing, most of the game had me going "ok but what is going on?" Now that I know what is going on I don't like the story of Act 3

There is always a cyclical divide on newly released stories/games/movies. Regardless of where you stand on that divide you engage with it anyways because that is how we humans get our kicks. Plenty of stuff that is considered a Master Piece doesn't do it for me while plenty of it does it doesn't mean anything.

Some people really just can't accept that the writers of a story didn't seek their personal approval for how to write it.

I think that's fair. I was getting a bit fed up with the way they kept dragging out the mystery by the end of act 2. It was starting to feel like I was playing Lost: The Game.

Don't get me wrong the mystery worked and Verso delivered it better than I expected. I just don't think the game should of gone into Act 3 because I was completely on board with how Act 2 was going to end.

This thread is a pretty poor example, because people have every right to be upset about being called "hypnotized" or "brainwashed" for liking it. That's actually how a lot of posts criticizing the game have begun.
Well, I wouldn't say Clair Obscur is mediocre. I strongly dislike the story, but everything else about the game is world class (balance issues can be fixed with patches). Especially the music. Music is God Tier.

I don't regret playing and will still recommend it to others (while warning them to not expect a world shattering narrative).

Overall, I rank it a 8.5/10. -1 point for the weak story and -0.5 for balance issues. If they fix the balance it's up to a 9.
