Is there some secret in Flying Waters?

Some of the critters you can see flying/swimming above you, like a stingray and a whale, react to when you 'shoot' them with your ranged projectile thing that stuns enemies.

I tried sitting there and shooting them for a while, but other than making some noise, nothing came of it. I expected some secret optional boss or something.

But is there anything that comes out of shooting those things?
