re: I really appreciate the last patches, but shouldn't those bugs have been ironed out before release?
The saved-game bugs in particular should not have been there for users to discover

If the saved game bugs are encountered by a large percentage of players then yes, of course they should have been caught. We would be hearing a lot more outrage if that was true.

It's very common for these games to be released in episodes. Lost Records only has two, the Life is Strange games had five.
To be completely fair, there are so many possible hardware and software combinations on the pc platform not a single studio can possibly iron all bugs out for a full release. Especially in a day and age where games are far more complex than 30 years ago and the most used engines actually empower a certain amount of laziness in the devs using them.

unreal especially is a great engine for people who have no ambition to learn the ins and outs of programming and game development because it really is that easy to use.

That said, optimally, yes, they should have been ironed out for most common system configurations and I believe devs can even consult steam surveys on the most common system configurations of its users, still it is unrealistic to expect all of the bugs to be ironed out on release date these days.
