This game failed to muster support from its target audience or rather if you ask me, it failed to read the room.

Its important to note, that I like this company and I loved the first and secound LiS games. But this game just don´t seem to cater to the same audience, it seems like a downgrade in just about any aspect..

Factor in the silly "culture war" we have..... there is just no way a game like this could attract enough players. I don´t really get it, as LiS is very progressive as well (and most of us like that and don´t mind it at all) but it felt organic in LiS.. natural even... This game does not look organic in anyway and the premise just seems odd.

I still respect the staff and their creative process, but hopefully they will understand that if they also wanna sell games, they need to read the room... In a perfect world, you could just create whatever you wanted and survive on it.. but not in gaming.. this game had a large enough budget to atleast merit 40-80k concurrent players on steam...

The original LiS had almost 20k concurrent players 10 years ago... games have rapidly more players now than back then.. but this game is still nowhere new the original LiS (that was much much much cheaper to make)

So.. LiS had 20k almost, LiS:BTS had 16k and Deck nines LiS2 had 468k players on peak......
So why did this game not take off.. well again.. it failed to capture its old core audience and its new target audience did not show up.

LiS:DE from deck nine, had a similar issue to this game (from the original devs of the series) and had only 8,524 peak players.

Its a shame, as these games are pretty awesome in storytelling and had some degree of agency back in the days, but the newer examples from the two studios are simply not targeting its core audience.

Anyway. I wish the devs the very best and hopefully they will survive and make a new game that might gather more popularity.

This game was on the "New & Trending" page for about a week and is currently #212 in Steam's top sellers. My point? Your doom and gloom is stupid as ****.

This isn't some indie game - Don't Nod Montréal has 404 employees. It took years to develop the game and it was delayed. Salaries need to be paid.

A few thousand copies won't cover their costs. There is a reason their stock price tanked by 90%. They are done. Like veilguard there will be massive layoffs or the entire studio will be shuttered.

There is simply no money to do otherwise.

Do you have access to a direct record of the number of copies it's sold? And, where are you seeing that its stock price dropped? Lastly, layoffs happen regardless of if a game performs well. Example? Marvel Rivals. You don't know what you're talking about and are writing off a studio before its time on the page is over.

Last year alone was a 70% drop, since 2019 a 95% drop. And the reason is that their games aren't selling. Look at the steam charts, the current one has a measly 500 concurrent players. For a 400-man studio, that is shocking. These are indie numbers.

My friend, it's over.

It's not over, as (one of) the true reason(s) for a lack of faith in this studio is corporate miscommunication and mismanagement manifesting in illegal layoffs, all of which is being fought against and could be better fought against from multiple parties if ******* didn't divert the discourse of it all to white supremacy dog-whistles like "wokeism": https://www.ign.com/articles/dont-nod-announces-layoffs-that-could-impact-up-to-69-workers.

Bro they literally do not have any more money. Their stock has crashed so they can't publicly raise money. Investors lost confidence. And their current game has not captured a large audience.

The developer is in debt from the current development. How would they continue to pay salaries?

You do understand that this is not a tiny indie game or even A game.. its a AA game with a budget around 30-40 million................. There is a reason why the companies stocks have gone from 30 euro to 1 euro on less than 8 years............ They are in deep trouble financially.. but Tencent whom is the biggest shareholder will most likely end up buying majority (there are 32% free float trading and Yanev have around 20%... Tencent is already above 40%

The company still have over 300 employees........... its by definition what we would call a midtier studio.. In comparison Warhorse studio that made the two Kingdom Come Deliverence games are only 250 employees and was lower with the first game.

This game had a budget similar to KC:D2 and higher than the first game................... there is no excuse for having these low numbers.. its red alert for the company, that if you look at net imcomes from the last few years are in a huge loss..........

Reconstruction is going to happen, one way or the other.. but again.. who was the target audience and why did they think said new target audience would buy enough to make a profit?? they completely misread the room.

It's not over 'til it's over, and it's never over: There are still workers who are there for the time being and those who can move to other studios and projects and may have done so already, all of which are topics that are overshadowed when white supremacists like yourself attribute situations to dog-whistles like "wokeness."

Celeste and WEBFISHING are two games that are progressive and successful. This game being "too progressive" is not the source of any problem in the slightest.

Celeste and web fishing were made by progressives, but they did not peddle far-left politics. There's a big difference.

Being too far left and pushing politics is exactly why this game failed.

Celeste is about transitioning and WEBFISHING openly supports LGBTQ+ people while mocking bigots.

Being "too far left" is what you want this game's supposed failure to be about so you can pat yourself on the back for being a white supremacist.

I don´t know either of the game and don´t understand why they are relevant (I assume they are small indie projects)
If this game was a tiny indie project, then we would not have the debate we do.

Them being progressive indie games makes their success even more impressive. You're right; there is no debate to be had here.

Again I have no clue what they are.. could you list them here? its hard to debate something that there is no source on.
Also why do you keep talking about "progressive" I really do not think many understand what that word means..
