This is 'make' or 'break' for DONTNOD

It sucks to say, but if this game is not a breakout hit it will likely kill the company. And, sadly, the way they are marketing I don't see this being a breakout hit. It will sell I'm sure, and maybe break even, but in all seriousness this is probably the last DONTNOD game we will ever get. :(

I HOPE they make it through, I really do, but this genre is pretty niche at the best of times, and they have yet to produce a game that reaches the level of success that LiS and BtS garnered.

Also, a bit mean-spirited, but I am mildly amused that you can see the exact moment their stock began it's free-fall was when they released LiS2.

I just wish they would have made a game for everybody to enjoy and not just for some people..

The game is about a group of friends in the 90s experiencing something crazy, and 27 years later it comes back to haunt them. If you could enjoy the IT movies, you can enjoy this game.

Very depressing i hope the game does well but i don't think it will, not sure how many people wanted it but i always hoped for a Vampyr 2

meh not that big of a loss, their games were always average at best

I am still interested in this one but only if it ends up having interesting writing and content instead of focusing on badly written tumblr drama

I effing hated LiS2, all endings!

This is on my wishlist but I highly doubt it’ll be a release purchase for me. The reviews will be the deciding factor for me. We’ll see because as it stands they are nearing the title “DontBuy” from me tbh…

Yeah, apart from their 'lightning in a bottle' LiS, their games usually barely make a profit, so honestly unless this turns out to be the best game since Skyrim it'll probably be their last unless they get absorbed.

They are really good at capturing personalities in their games, and they are at their best when playing into that strength. Very few developers can do that, I feel, and it's a shame the genre of 'walking sims' isn't bigger.

Then again, Deck Nine came out with two banger titles and was coasting on success and then screwed it all up with one flop, so this genre just isn't very forgiving. It gives the best stories, but has the lowest profit margin.
Go woke, go broke.

They havent allowed reviews to be released earlier than launch. It is usually sign that there is something wrong.

That tend to happen when whole your portfolio consists of essentially same product. It seems that Telltale fate have not teached other devs anything.

Hope they feel the big pressure of it, because you said aloud what is silently in air whole time. This game better be good or it's end of a studio as a classic one hit wonder. If until now they still did not get, why the first game was good, or at least did not hire someone else to do the analysis for them, it's gonna be their fate. I'm not even sure yet, if I will give em the chance right away, because if there's no denuvo I might play it first and buy it later.

in what world would anyone allow the reviews without any product being released? How would you review the car you did not drive yet, a TV you did not see on, a movie you did not watch, a graphic card you did not install in your PC?

You can freely discuss it here, but how reviews would be any relevant...

I keep seeing people like you post this exact narrative.
Almost like yall want the game to flop so you can go.."SEE, WE TOLD YOU!"

You guys need to simmer down.

"see I told you" is exactly opposite I want, since LIS I am waiting for similar, character based and story oriented game they did not provide... LIS2 characters were shallow, exaggerated and full of politics and it missed all the oomph the LIS had. Deck9 at least were able to catch it in BTS, but since that it got downwards till the latest debacle. It took dontnod a decade of creating unrelated (mostly mediocre) games in different genre, to finally get back to waters that gave em huge fanbase and recognition in first place.
I share the sentiment of OP and hope the success of this game carries them forward. That is enough to make a few more games. As for their decision to go public with stock, idk if that is a mistake or not.

and twin mirror with tell me why announces later pretty much cemented any hope for anything as good as LiS1. Lost Records also not gonna be profitable, either.

and even if banishers is fine, but everyone sees it as god of war ripoff. remember me and vampy at least were really unique.

but is it like IT, bc if it was a horror game that would sell for sure. but as ppl stated, the marketing is what is killing this game and YES, it is definitely catered to a very niche crowd. im only here, because I saw it on popular trending, but the trailer didn't envoke anything in me lol... i'm curious on the 'what are they hiding' but i bet it's nothing horror and i bet it's not worth 40 bucks figuring out. if anything, ill watch someone else play it.
i've never played a LiS game... i like genres like this but in order to gain a crowd, you need to step outside of 'niche' and attract more gamers. this does not do it.
