how do i find the hammer in joe's room? i've clicked everything, i've used everything on everything, joe just keeps telling me to check the cabinets but i can't find the right combination of inputs. i've also watched a demo playthrough of the puzzle where the hammer pieces were just in the clutter on the shelves, but that's not happening for me, so i think the demo and release versions feature different puzzles here?

idk i just want to nail that little ♥♥♥♥♥♥ out of my bedroom

Ok, spoiler time!
It can be in several locations. Most probable locations are the two locked cabinets. You need a key for them. Be sure to check under the rug as well. And move all the crates to see if anything is under / behind them. There could be something under the floorboard with the hole. And use the the chair to reach the top shelves.

How do you get the key?

One cabinet has a broken key in the lock, but it doesn't seem possible to get it out.
