Spoilers // Is Entreat the Darkness the true ending?
Is this a case scenario where we get the "any ending could be taken as true" or we actually know for a fact that the one from the NG+ is the true one?

Answering this question feels akin to answering the question "Is Heaven's Feel the true ending to Fate/Stay Night?"

I recall it was said the three FSN routes could be taken as true.

It’s the most canon in my eyes. How they depicted Kaya at the end chills.

I suspect that there is gonna be another route through the DLC that largely has to do with Kaya and that would likely be the actual true ending or at least the ending with the most satisfying conclusion. It simply makes the most sense due to how significant her character actually is versus her actual importance in all the routes so far.

Technically, all the endings are equally "true". The game has no "good" ending.

Iori is a character denying his personal desires, and the ending where he gets what he wants is supposed to be depressing. It completes his and Sabers character arc, so I understand it seeming like the "true" ending from that perspective, but it's also the "worst" ending.

Ray Of Light is probably the most satisfying, but even that ends with "and then she dies".

But yeah, Kaya Route in the DLC would make sense considering how underutilised she (and the 15th Servant) is in the plot. Though I didn't previously consider them putting an actual plot in the DLC - I was expecting something closer to Warriors games, or ZW: Age of Calamity.

Regardless of it been the canon or true end or not, it's pretty much how Iori's life is going to end. Might as well end on a high note true to one's nature...

Nope, anyone that have followed Fate/NASU storytelling will understand that EVERY ending are True including the "Joke". That's why we have Bad Kirei (F/SN) and Good Kirei (Fate/Illya) because Fate is multiversal. The 4 endings proved that there are possibly 4 (or 3?) Iori recorded within the Throne of Heroes and that they will be INDEPENDENTLY made as summonable servants in FGO.

Result of the summoning is still dependent on the memory of the version of the world/gaia or moon cell. The FATE system in FGO feels bs because meh guda has power of fwendsherwoop.

All endings are the true ending..

each ending is a parallel timeline/reality is the easiest way to make sense of it imo.

As is typically the case with entry's to this franchise that have multiple endings..

I really hate this muh bad/good/true ending moniker given by game journalists.
Some give this to every games that have 3 endings.

in fairness
Sunny Days is considered the "good" ending, while the proper ending to UBW is the "true" ending
the question I failed to be asked

The latest Samurai Remnant Collab on FGO, kind of makes the NG+ ending more favored there with Saber's interaction with Iori and the very first chapter implies it through the setting when Iori first appears and his confusion of why he was there. Although there are a lot of references to the two alternative endings/routes too.

While it's not explicitly stated in the event, Takeru's final material entry and the final quest (Samurai Remnant encore) pretty much confirms EtD Iori is the one who reached the throne. This is essentially the other side of the Avalon/Beyond the hill end. Iori's 9999 atk stat is also a nice reference to it too.

Personally, I think it should just be a thing of “all endings are true”. I’ve thought about it quite a bit, and I feel that when viewing EtD as the “True ending”, it ends up making much of the story feel pointless. Especially the fact that there are multiple routes.
This is all just my opinion. I know there are people who think that EtD being the True end is great, I’m just not one of them.
