No spoilers, is the way to get the alternate ending obvious or should I look up a guide?

I'm at the beginning or Chapter V on NG+, and I obviously want the alternate ending that I know exists but know nothing else about. I want to avoid any kind of spoilers but I don't want to end up missing the way to get the ending (or any other new content for that matter).
Should I just bite the bullet and look up a guide or will the path become obvious as I progress?
