Playable characters

The game says that you can play as the titular protagonist and saber. Also you can get contracts with rogue servants, but now I saw a gameplay video with archer and his master. So, is Rider/Minamoto no Raikou playable too?

i assume it's a ng+ thing to play as other characters
or you unlock characters to play during story after beating other masters
as servants can make new contracts after their master dies

You play as Iori and his servant, Saber (both dudes, this Saber is the male version).

You get to play as other servants, but their gameplay segments are few and far between, and you only get to play as them for a few minutes.

So in the end, gameplay is:

Iori = 90% of playtime
Saber = 8%% of playtime
Servants = 2% of playtime

If you are looking to play as other characters this is not the game for you, as you will be controlling Iori 90% of the time.

The Musashi gamplay you keep seeing around is the only time you really get to play as her, and the segment lasts for only 5 minutes. I think later you can summon her as an ability from time to time, but shebi ly lasts a few seconds on the field.

Yes, the gif on the storefront with her preorder dress, that is taken from the 5 minute segment.

Yes, those gameplay segments occur parallel to the main story, but only last a few minutes each. You wont get to enjoy other characters to their fullest extent, not even in ng+.

This is an Iori focused game in and out.

So as someone that’s mainly into the warriors games and thought this would be a way to dip my toes into Fate for the first time, is it looking like a bad way to get this game? Is it the Fate aspect that’s the big sell here or does the warriors gameplay seem decent enough for a non-Fate fan?

It's definitely the fate aspect selling this game

The whole Rider Raikou aspect is what’s calling to me, tbh. Otherwise I would just wait for a massive sale

That's the same thing I thought. I preordered just in case, but if others confirm Musashi is barely playable at all, I will refund and wait for a sale.

From what I've seen you get side story parts that allows you to play as other masters in some chapters. They are not just a few minutes long but are also not full campaigns.

They really should have a free battle mode so you can actually play as the other characters more it's one of the most basic things in a musou game to have multiple playable characters
