Just capped a 6th that had 197 crew when I boarded but now it can only hold 140, I only have 1 stars captains does that effect anything ?

According to that it has a crew of 229 but only 140 show on the ship
Thanks, the British have much larger crews on the same ships before I capture them, is that intended then ?
If you run into a scenario where this doesn't appear to be the case, please report and it will get looked at.
You can have larger crews on different ships, managed to capture some that hold 270ish now
Like panda said I was prob comparing 2 different sorts of 6th rates, some hold more crew than others
Naval combat here is a bit of a pain most battles, with the British retreating if the numbers are even close it seems
Getting so many battles where I waste 15 minutes trying to chase fleeing ships for them to
stay that bit ahead of me and get away, got to the stage now where i only fight a battle I could lose in auto the rest i leave to auto resolve
Ai ships setting a retreat course then hitting a headwind is your best bet, they refuse to turn and just sit head on to the wind for 10 minutes while you tack behind them eventually and blow them to bits with half the guns they have lol
If you upgrade the sailing skills you can catch them with something fast and shoot out the sails or board to stop them. I've got some 18 gun Privateers that hit 19 knots. You can also reinforce the boarding ships using boats from the other ships or take a surrendered ship back using the boats.
Yep that's all the same as Age of sail, I have 100s of hours in that
My point is naval combat here is a backwards step from AOS , they removed (so far) all the best bits of Aos, the ability to fit ships out for purpose, over manning or going for optimal crew size etc
