How do i take fort Ticonderoga. i seem to be hitting a wall with this objective every time

I started a new campaign recently (Deployment Zones) on easy. After three attempts to take Boston I gave up, numerically similar but a huge difference in weapons and discipline. The map expanded and I turned my attention to Ticonderoga. I fought three battles, three forts facing three regiments, one in each. So I was successful.
What this game is very good at is biting you when and where you don't expect. My success at Ticonderoga was tempered by the arrival of 2000 troops West of Newport. Their intended destination being Hatfield. A warning had previously popped "Protect Hatfield" with a number of days duration. I won through in a tough battle but Boston still lurks and Canada is around the corner.
In the many attempts at taking Ticonderoga this was the easiest for me. I went early in the expansion before they get reinforced. My nemesis is still Boston. In this game it's difficult to win everywhere. For me Boston awaits.

Update to the above. Took Boston. My 6000 against roughly 4000. Chased them to Salem, took Salem but Thomas Gage escaped and is now lurking somewhere in Canada. Consolidate then try for Montreal. Before the next wave arrives. Love this game.
