There's nothing that doesn't really "work" in that sense, but there are certainly skills better than others. You also will have plenty of changes to respec characters later, so don't stress it too much.
2: All of the Joint skills, to my knowledge, require their characters to have uninterrupted turns between them; Meaning, if a skill requires x, y, and z, then the turn order needs to be x, y, z, a, b, c...
The order itself doesn't matter (zyx, xzy, etc), but they need to be next to each other.
3: I'm not going to defend sealing at this point; I'm in the post game and I still think it's a PITA.
4: No. But trust me, you'll start getting better equipment before long.
