Why is one the "True" Ending?

I have finished once again all 4 main endings and also the mary endings + Ib all alones. Why is it that people only call "Promise of Reunion" the true ending and not "Together Forever"? Yes, I see that the gameplay favors Garry, since he translates the pictures to you, but I feel like enjoying the thought of Mary being able to live a life in her ending much more than Garrys ending. I have the feeling that Mary was originally shown as the antagonist, but with patch 1.04 or what it was on the original game that added Marys endings, I can hardly see her as the villain at all. Especially when she refuses to leave without Ib, since she believes in their friendship.
What do you all think of this?

i think that promise of reunion tends to be thought of as the only "true" ending because the world stays as it "should" be when both ib and garry, who are originally from the real world, are able to return to it (although the largest reason is probably just garry's popularity)
but i agree that together forever is nicer than its given credit for :") mary deserves to see the world
