Black screen on launch fix soloution. Discoved this myself.
So, after launching the game for the first time, i found it was freezing on a black screen. This is because the screen resoloution was incorrect. So i have the simple steps to fix this and the cause.

Cause: Dual monitors, for some reason it really doesnt like this

Fix: (win 7)
1) Right click anywhere on you're desktop

2) Click: screen resoloution

3) At multiple displays: click show only on desktop 1 or 2 (depending on what you use for main display.)

4) Launch the game

5) Go to graphics settings and set the correct resoloution depending on the size of your monitor E.G: my monitor is 19" so the resoloution is 1440x900.

6) Close game

7) Right click anywhere on desktop and re-enable your second screen

8) Launch game and enjoy!

Please let me know if this was helpful. There doesnt seem to be much help or support from the developers or valve.

Ran into the same problem myself as I'm using a 3 monitors setup with different resolutions. Wasn't really willing to go through the hassle of disabling the other two just to get this game to launch, but I remembered an old trick that saved me more than once from this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on Win7.

1. locate your game binary (Silenthill.exe in \Steam\steamapps\common\Silent Hill Homecoming\Bin) in the explorer

2. right click on it and open its properties

3. go to the compatibility tab and then click on "Disable desktop composition"

4. launch the game directly from this binary. It worked on my 1080p display and launched in 800*600

5. go to the game video options and set the resolution correctly

6. quit the game. now you should be able to start it directly from Steam

Voila! By the way, I don't even think Step 4 is required. You might already be able to launch it from directly Steam
