silent hill downpour on PC? It is possible?

Well... Hard to believe, because it might not be technically worth it. Making a PC port wouldn't be free, and it probably wouldn't sell that well anyway, because Downpour wasn't really all that famous.

Porting the HD Collection to PC would be better choice in my opinion (as they already ported it to PS3 and XBOX 360), but again.. It's Konami, hard to believe this would happen, but there's always hope, though.

I think is possible, more or less. But HD Collection for PC... well, I think it's not so good idea. Console versions has a lot of bugs and problems (people from Konami lost original codes of SH2 and SH3), Yes, they are can to correct more errors, but I would buy original Silent Hill (in Steam, it's can will be great): SH2, SH3 and SH4. What about PC-port of Downpour... is possible, but Konami must have hard reason for that.

Downpour was the first silent hill game that I actually played through completely. Honestly, the trailer and the beginning of the game was the best part. The rest of the game was simply okay. On the PS3 the framerate had MAJOR issues that were annoying. You are really not missing much by not being able to play the game. Though the Silent Hill game on the Wii I hear is REALLY good.

It's true that the original ones would be better choice to be released in Steam, but they were also pretty bad ports too, you know. They don't run really well on modern PC's (lags, freezins, sound problems, etc.) I would have higher hopes for HD collection, because it's a newer version of them, and they already fixed the worst issues from PS3. If they would improve something, my bet will be HD Collection.

If this game's pricing is any indication, and how rare it is that it goes on sale, I can just assume that they spend very little time thinking about PC. They oviously don't care enough to make anything off of this game, let alone understand the pricing models on Steam.

It seems it is a pride thing with them to be nice, but I assume it is more of a lack of knowledge on what the PC market could do for them. Consoles are much easier to dictate pricing and to scam gamers.

Homecoming is one of those games on PC that I'd pretty much condone finding it somewhere for free. If they pay this little attention to their digital version I doubt they could give a rat's ass about you stealing it. XD

It's too bad the HD collection wasn't released for PC. Fans could have fixed how badly it was made and restored the original voice acting. As for Downpour, I believe it was originally announced for Windows as well but because of how poorly it sold on consoles, Konami just scrapped it.

The early promotional in-game screen shots ran on PC and looked much better than the console versions (gamers complained).

The best PC version of Silent Hill 1 is probably the emulated version.Not sure if there even was a retail version, but the emulated one works quite well. So it's not like they aren't out there. People have emulated the games on PC using a Playstation emulator to great success.

I've played 3 and 4 on PC I believe. The controls were clunky, but this series always had clunky gameplay. 4 seemed to run fairly well.

Even if they sold Silent Hill 1- whatever, you would have to wait for it to be at a lower price or wait for there to be an update for errors or something for it to be good. If you want, you can get an Emmulator and get Silent hill 1 like the comment above, but it still has some bugs. Also again 3 and 4 are already ported and are ok games. Silent hill 2 although would be a bit harder to port in my opinion. Porting involves looking for bugs and making the whole game on a different console

Oh if only, but it's looking quite unlikely now, I saw a post on this topic that dated back to 27-7-11. But after RE4HD (yet another re-release of this game) on Steam, gives me a little hope that Downpour will be done too.

Its not a very good game at all you can see it was made cheaply in eastern europe. I bought it on Xbox 360 & never played it all the way through it was just too average in so many ways.

Konami could easily port to PC as it uses Unreal Engine 3 all they need to do is pay the QA costs to do this & add Steamworks but I doubt it would sell enough copies to even cover that due to how average the actual game content was. Its the worse non handheld game in the series by far & makes Homecoming look way better than it was.

I am kind of surprised someone has not bought the 360 version then reverse engineered the actual game files to run on PC via the UT3 game editor!

I played it for my 360, it was one of many games I've traded in now, otherwise I'd get a 360 Emulator & play it that way, I enjoyed Downpour much more than Homecoming, the PC port is terrible anyway.

Just made a pretty long argument on why Downpour should come out on PC. Seeing that this topic is a better fit for that I'll just paste it in. Feel free to add your thoughts.

I disagree: there are a lot of reasons why a company can release a game and the specific game being well-received is just one of those reasons. Silent Hill has a pretty relevant past on PC (SH2, SH3, SH4 and Homecoming were all realased on the platform) so it would not be a stupid decision to port Downpour even years later. A cheap PC version can:

- minimize financial losses (Steam sales)
- market another title (what if the next SH will be on PC?)
- increase a publisher's visibility on the platform
- make a quick buck on a widely recognized franchise even when the specific title is not particularly successful
- possibility to sell the game for at least a decade from the time the console it was originally released on becomes irrelevant / unavailable

Re-releasing a game years later can also have positive effects: people forget about low ratings, nostalgia makes the game seem to be of better quality. Also when it comes to Downpour let's not forget it's running under Unreal Engine 3 so porting is relatively easy, fast and cheap.

It's not a huge gamble to port an UE3 game but the thing is Downpour was a commercial and critical failiure. That's holding Konami back, if you remember back in the day it was stated that the game would eventually pop up on PC but after the game's flop the idea was dropped.

Overall if you look at the recent trend of making late ports of current gen titles (Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Enslaved, Mortal Kombat 9 etc.) it's clear there is money to be made there. Downpour is not too old and it's definitely not outdated in terms of technology. Next gen graphics quality is also tempting to a lot of people, in part that's why MK9 was wildly successful on PC: a lot of console gamers double dipped because of the 1080p resolution, the better graphics and the constant 60 fps (on console it goes down to 30 when you're doing x-ray moves). It was the same with Castlevania: the game was markated as running on 1080p 60 fps with better graphics and because of that not only PC gamers bought the title but a lot of console gamers double dipped.

So if you look at Downpour you see a game that has major performance issues on console (has a hard time to maintain even 30 fps) and runs on 720p of course. If Konami would say "hey, the game's coming out on PC and you'll get 1080p, 60 fps and better visuals" a lot of Silent Hill fans who already own the game on console would double dip because first: the game's old enough to be sold on half price, second: after 2 years they would like to experience the game in better quality and third: console gamers are excited for "next gen" content. Add some adjustments, some extra content and an "ultimate edition" name to the title and you've got yourself a game that would sell relatively well on PC, approximately on the level of Lords of Shadow.

Basically Konami needs to grow some balls and measure what the game's good for: a 2 year old game with improved performance and visuals for 25 bucks would be a no-brainer buy for Silent Hill fans even if the game's quality is only slightly higher than avarage. If you look at all the low quality games on Steam (Ipad ports, for God's sake :D) it's easy to see why.

Also let's not forget the genre: it's an adventure game which is a natural fit for PC: just look at some of the recent releases on Steam: the Black Mirror series, Broken Age, the new Broken Sword etc. Downpour is different, it's an AAA adventure game, it would be a really nice fit in Steam's library and let's face it: at least it's better than Black Mirror 2-3. Also: it's a horror title and that genre maybe has the strongest following on PC these days (Amnesia 1-2, Evil Within etc.). In the age where garbage like Guise of the Wolf can come out on Steam a Silent Hill game would be a breath of fresh air.
