I had the same problem.
Found it at the Humble Bundle store afterwards. There I could buy the steam key and it worked. You might try that out.

My 2 cents;
This pc port is notorious for being one of the most, if not THE worst pc ports in gaming history. It's buggy as f***, music and dialogue out of sync, weapons don't work properly, at tims you're unable to move your character or he even disappears completely.. and freezing in places.
The best bet is actually playing the concole version, preferably on ps3, since that's the one it was made for. Runs extremely smooth
