Silent Hill: Homecoming

Silent Hill: Homecoming

Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Mod doesn't look so impressive
Saw buncha articles promoting this mod lately, but then I saw this comparison between it and the original PS2 version played via emulator:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hT4phG7XxKk
And the author points out that the mod is still sub-par compared to the original. So i have no ideo why there's so much hype around it.

That video is 2 years old and thus pretty outdated. Being an ongoing project, the game has had many improvements done since (check the website's update log) with major ones being done this year, so it is equal, maybe even superior to the ps2 version now (depending on how thick your nostalgia glasses are) along with its fixed resolution support, so the things criticized in the video have been addressed. Playing it now and it's great, I'd definitely give it a go.

It's just a minimalists mod for an old game. What do you expect? I think this kinda falls under ... even though it was a good game ... it already looked like ass to begin with therefore the differences between PC and PS2 are trivial.

Well, the video's author has responded to similar comments and claims that even with the latest version of EE the PC version is notably inferior to the PS2 one.

and thats his purist's opinion. Should you accept it as an official word or should you go form your own opinion? Because as far as i know thats just a nobody.

Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition at 4k 60 fps, advanced fog effect, customizable film grain, software shadows, 60 fps fmv movies mod, upscaled 2D images and DSOAL positioning audio is the absolute best version of Silent Hill 2 i've ever had the pleasure of playing.

Purists can keep playing the game at 360p/30 fps on the PS2 if they want. Or go deal with the various bugs and input delay of PCSX2 that weren't mentioned in his video (God knows how many hours i have on PCSX2) but i don't see myself ever coming back to that.

I have played all versions of SH2 including the Xbox version and atrocious HD collection, and i can safely say that Enhanced Edition is by far the best version of the game. Hopefully the team will work on this terrible Homecoming port when they're done perfecting SH2.

The whole forum is people posting about the poor port quality ..lol. I for one would welcome it and the only reason I'm hesitating to buy this, as I'm sure many have been doing. Waiting for a ~80% sale at least to see how good the current fixes are.

Depends what you like really. I have a big TV so anything in 480 looks bad. On my mobile phone on the other hand, 480 is just dandy.
It also depends how good you are at tweaking emulators, you could style the game to your own liking and think that was the best option.
I'd recommended you just try both out since the Enhanced Edition on PC is completely free.
I like the mod. And for me the EH-mod is the reason I came back to this gem of a game.

And I don't care about the graphics, as long as it's looking as good as the ps2-version at least.. Sometimes I imagine how [bad] it would be, if I would play Silent Hill 1.
Sure story is great too, but the original psx-game aged not that well.
So I hope there will be a remake of the first Silent Hill some day.

I think the team won't do a mod for Homecoming.
There is no need of spending years of work to make this game better.
Imo its one of the worst entries in the series and it probably needs more of a remake-treatment instead of an upgreading mod that would let the game look a bit better or fixing some crashes.
