SH4 on GOG: A warning.

So, I just tried the "newly" re-released SH4 on GOG. I wasn't expecting much but my god, Konami has got to be joking.

The only new thing they added was more screen resolutions. That's it. It's technically a data dump for money.

If you play in widescreen, text and still images will look stretched.

Some cutscenes look like garbage due to improper filter alignment.

Video options include resolution, gamma and brightness... That's it. No texture upscale.

No proper controller support. Buttons on my controller were all messed up. The right joystick, which is used frequently in the First-Person segment, cannot be rebinded. Up turns camera right, Right turns camera down, Down turns camera left and Left turns camera up. (EDIT: There is a SH4Config.exe in the file folder, but it's not possible to change it in-game)

A total blunder yet again by Konami. Congratulations.

Bro, I see the point you're making and you're right. But GOG's only goal is too provide old Games on modern Systems. Nothing more nothing less. I am glad they re-released it there becuase my og physical PC copy isn't working anymore. Furthermore I hope they will do the same with other games, because all those Remakes, Remasters often come with nasty suprises like in-game stores and stuff. At the end of the day it's just that a re-release, no remake nor remaster or whatsoever.

Indeed. Like I said above, it's good if you never played it and can't procure old hardware.

I never said this was a remaster. You seem confused.

Are you really expecting a true widescreen experience with up scaled textures of a re-release of what's essentially a ported PS2 game, especially one that was released during a period of time that didn't really support widescreen as commonly as it is now? You still have to do some minor modding to Doom 3 to get a widescreen resolution and that was a game that was intentionally NOT a port of a PS2 game. So expecting this release to support that just because it's the standard today is a little confused as well. I'm surprised that they went as far as they did, honestly.

I agree, the game needs a remaster that supports widescreen, I'd love to see that with ALL the Silent Hill games. Saying that, all this is is a re-released ported game, nothing more, nothing less.

I play with invert mouse, i couldnt seem to get it work on it somehow, doesnt work. Hope they release it on steam too so i can play it with a controller at least.

l'm ok with it. l paid 10$ for convenient sake. For me getting the game up on my gog shelf is better than download a pirated rom or bid for a physical disks on ebay.

What did u expect? A totaly remastered SIlent Hll 4 for this low price?
And did u now the longer Name of GOG? "Good OLD Games"
When it were a remaster it will cost much more @my country 9.99€ thats nothing.
would it be a remaster it will cost 39.99€ here.

The reviews on Silent Hill 4 on GOG are actually quite good though, the average rating being 4.7/5.

I got it and personally thought it was a good port. However SH4 is not a great game. And definetly has loads of hicccuups. Luckily the first half of the game is mostly good. However the second part is just boring, tedious and frustrating. I would only reccomend if you dont mind that. But for me the second half was a chore to play.
