Silent Hill: Homecoming

Silent Hill: Homecoming

SH4 on GOG: A warning.
So, I just tried the "newly" re-released SH4 on GOG. I wasn't expecting much but my god, Konami has got to be joking.

The only new thing they added was more screen resolutions. That's it. It's technically a data dump for money.

If you play in widescreen, text and still images will look stretched.

Some cutscenes look like garbage due to improper filter alignment.

Video options include resolution, gamma and brightness... That's it. No texture upscale.

No proper controller support. Buttons on my controller were all messed up. The right joystick, which is used frequently in the First-Person segment, cannot be rebinded. Up turns camera right, Right turns camera down, Down turns camera left and Left turns camera up. (EDIT: There is a SH4Config.exe in the file folder, but it's not possible to change it in-game)

A total blunder yet again by Konami. Congratulations.

(I will post screenshots later lol)

I mean, you could take my advice and walk away, but you can try it for yourself, it's just 10 bucks and you can refund.

I'd recommend it if you're ABSOLUTELY desperate to try it, since it can be quite difficult to procure the original version and a PS2 (or PS3).

I'm really disappointed they didn't try harder.
You see, Homecoming is not that bad after all : )/-*63
Old SH are better on consoles.

I wish I could have experienced Homecoming on console because the way I got it on PC was a disaster.

And yes, the original SH anthology was better on consoles.

Tbh I am REALLY surprised they tried at all (I mean I am surprised that the game works at all, and on top of that they fixed cutscenes, added 16:9 support (I am playing these old games in 4:3 anyway though), etc)... Now if only they did the same with SH2/3. In fact they don't even need to fix anything in those games, and just dump old ports to GoG/Steam "as is". Fan made patches for SH2 exist and they are perfect, and SH3 port doesn't really need any patches at all.

Silent Hill fans always try to kill the franchise.

Just because the port isn't perfect doesn't make this unworthy to buy and play.(At least it's much better than buying expensive copy of the game from Ebay)

After so many long time, Konami has released this game on GoG and you just want it to fail because it isn't "perfect".

Gosh there's so much BS in that reply.

This statement is too ridiculous. Defending the release ironically makes you a fan, someone trying to bury the franchise, in your own words. This is the quality standard you want? Ok man, I get it.

Yes, just like I said above, try it only if you can't sleep at night knowing you never tried SH4. Yes, it's better than getting an original copy, the console it came with and an old TV.

I can't really make something fail that has already failed commercially all those years ago. Warning people that this is almost the exact same version as before with some slight INI tweaks isn't wanting it to fail, it's simply making a heads up.

I'm still happy they made it available. Hopefully, modding will make it even better.

Eeeh, it works well enough for my liking. The only fix I needed was for 21:9 support, which I expected to have to do anyway. Oddly, I've been able to use a controller with no issues. The default bindings were really screwed up, but rebinding was no problem for me with a DS4. Seems I'm in the minority though.

There's a Config.exe in the data folder which you can use to rebind your controller outside the game.

I have a DS4 too, but the layout was all messed up, not just the right joystick. Basically the only correct bindings for me were the DPad and the left joystick. Everything else had to be reconfigured.

Just a tip for those who have xinput controllers (like Xbox One controller in my case), the game supports controller and kb+m inputs simultaneously. You can just set right stick to act as a mouse joystick via Steam Controller app. Works really well.

Bro, I see the point you're making and you're right. But GOG's only goal is too provide old Games on modern Systems. Nothing more nothing less. I am glad they re-released it there becuase my og physical PC copy isn't working anymore. Furthermore I hope they will do the same with other games, because all those Remakes, Remasters often come with nasty suprises like in-game stores and stuff. At the end of the day it's just that a re-release, no remake nor remaster or whatsoever.
