I haven't played the GOG version yet, but my understanding is that the GOG versions of many games are actually MORE than just a straight port and have some compatibility fixes for modern systems, i.e. I've bought a handful of older games on Steam that flat out don't work (to the point where there's not even a patch or hotfix that will fix it), but have been fixed and working perfectly on GOG.
That being said, maybe it was easier to fix the compatibility issues with Silent Hill 4 than SH2 and SH3? This is considering the history of Konami losing the original files for SH2 and SH3...that whole incident where the HD Collection on PS3/X360 was actually made from beta versions of the PC ports and had to be debugged all over again (unsuccessfully), resulting in the disastrous end-product.
Edit: Some people say that the cutscenes are fixed in the GoG version.(Since the cutscenes had this problem of running at 15 FPS in the original PC version)
If it wasn't for gaming news website talking about it, I'd never known it was released on GOG. The exact same thing happened when they released Zone of the Ender 2 on Steam.
I bought SH4 on GOG and I'll be playing tonight.
iknow man, luckily i remind myself to sign into GOG everyday incase i miss any classic games being released on there.
hopefully they are warmed to it now.and keep on adding all of their games to GOG and hopefully steam too in future. its a no brainer, its EZ money and corona stiil being a thing too, i bet their pacinko machines whatever they call them are down alot of $$$$$
Right way, this game we're in the technical forum for was a huge flop. Konami and Steam still want $40 for it. They also did not touch the original code for Homecoming in any way leading to most people having to finagle it to get it going and stable. GoG at least threw in some resolution options and people are reporting stable performance even if they're disappointed in the lack of remaster.
Granted, I wish every remaster could be Crash N'Sane Trilogy. Those devs just put every other port, remaster or update to shame to me. Like, how can Nintendo hold their heads up after actually running Mario 64 in an emulator in their recent collection? Or Crytek with the Crysis "remaster" that was almost objectively worse in every way.
If anything, I'd like to see this game on Gog for $10 as well as the first three games. Even if they're just ports. And if MGS2: Substance is $10, than Silent Hill Homecoming is $10...
