I disagree. There's a difference between a fun, satisfying challenge and something that's just too frustrating and miserable to get through.
For instance, in the case of the chase, the closest save point takes you too far back. That makes it tedious and boring to make it back to the chase. Most of my friends who played the game died a lot and got annoyed by having to make their way all the way back over to the chase. They were more annoyed by that than the chase itself. There should at least be a save point right before it - if they just moved the save point closer, that would already improve it by a lot.
Secondly, the chase has unfair parts. Like there's a place where you run all the way to the right and it's just darkness. You're supposed to go down (I believe, it's been a while since I played) but obviously if you don't know what to do it looks like a wall and you have a split second to decide what to do before you die. If you don't, you die and you're taken alllll the way back to the save point.
I almost quit right there, but I had already invested time into the game so I continued until I got it. And after I got it, I wasn't satisfied or happy. I felt like I had just wasted my time on a badly designed puzzle.
It would be good if they still kept the chase as it was, but had a way to avoid it for people who don't want to do it. That way people who enjoy the challenge can still do it and people who don't want to don't have to. I enjoyed the rest of the game. I even enjoyed the chase scene at the end which was challenging and fun! But the mirror one was obnoxious.
Actually since I've written this post, I've found out another version had come out that addressed some of the problems I had with the chase (like it moved the save point closer.) So I feel like I was correct that the chase actually had frustrating elements and was not a fun challenge. If it was perfectly fine as it was, it wouldn't have been updated in a later version.
So what if I wrote a lot? I laid out my reasoning and why I felt the way I did. And if I'm the reason why games aren't as challenging anymore - GOOD. I feel all games should have difficulty settings. Easy mode for all! Plus I didn't say I wanted it completely removed, I said I wanted a work around for people who don't want to do it. In any case, I'm just happy that there's a version with a better save point and it will likely be carried over to the new one.
Thanks! I'm happy to hear it! I really love the game other than that part. I'm excited for the remake. ❤️ 🎃
Can you tell us which chapter exactly and what scene? Ideally in video format. This game is pretty big and I want to be sure that we're getting the right feedback towards a specific area!
Either that or have a difficulty choice in the beginning. The challenge of the chase scene was thrilling and I loved it. And then after i got it I was able to do it flawlessly.
I do agree that some sort of QoL difficulty setting is useful and would make the game more inclusive to those of us who don't have great reaction times. Not every game is good at action sequences, even the ones other people think are "easy". An increasing number of us are grandparent age, or have some physical issue where we can't press keys that fast.
That being said, I understand that the devs are indie creators and it's not their job to cater to us "casuals"/scrubs. Aka it would be "nice" but making everyone happy is not practical.
Ideally, one could give the challenge fans achievements and let the casuals play their games in easy mode. We generally don't care about achievements anyway. Heck, i wouldn't care if someone put a flag on my Steam profile that said "gg loser" as long as I got to still play games.
I was through the corridor, and suddenly I got a save prompt. At first I thought it was some 4th wall breaking scare, but the save was legit.
