$100 to beta test?
Seriously you want people to pay $100 to beta test your game?

The reason closed testing is so expensive is for various reasons.

1. This game has 0 funding. To get it off the ground I had to go out of my own pocket until I simply couldn't afford it anymore.

2. This game is in very high demand (4.5 Million views on tiktok in a single day) 250k views on the newest youtube video in a week. Many many people want to play this game. I need closed testers so if I were to make it a price that looks appealing to 90% of people they would all make the jump and buy the closed testing which would drown me in bug reports, feedback, criticism from people thinking the game was release ready etc. I priced closed testing to make it exclusive and deter people who aren't serious about being a closed tester and understanding of the current state of the game.

This way I can fund the development, and make sure thousands of people aren't buying the game just to play it. You're paying that much to support the development and play an active part in it as well. Not just to play the game.

As for the copyright situations, any action from paramount is possible but unlikely. At the end of the day I am going to make the game regardless otherwise no one ever would because they'd be scared of a cease and desist. I choose to take the risk and even if a cease and desist were to occur it wouldn't be the end of the game. Changes would need to be made but until anything is concrete or bought to my attention I am going to continue the development as planned cause no one else is going to do it. You guys can preach all the copyright laws but at the end of the day it's not you who has the say, it's the IP owners.

I don't work in fear, I work to deliver the best possible game that I can. If everyone lived in fear of what ifs and all the negative possibilities, people wouldn't get anywhere in life.

Until then, you can be a self titled lawyer and pessimist, but it's not going to change anything for me. Millions of people want to see this game come to fruition and I am doing my job of delivering that game no matter what potential obstacles stand in the way. I've done and continue to do everything I can to avoid issues for example by replacing the entire soundscape of the game with our own sound designs created from scratch, not using anything directly from the film in terms of audio. Minor differences between the designs of the creatures and machines and the fact that the War of the Worlds is a public domain makes it that much less prone to legal action. I am not saying nothing will happen. Because yes, if they wanted to they could take action and would have every right to do so.
But it is unlikely. The game has garnered tens of millions of views across all social media platforms, I am sure that anyone who has the authority to take action would have seen it by now. It could be a matter of time, or it could never happen. But I am NOT going to sit back in fear of the what if, instead I am going to make the game that millions of us War of the Worlds fans have been waiting for for decades.

If people want to pay $100 for beta testing then let them! And if you don't like that, then simply wait till early next year for public early access. The guy gotta fund his progress with the game somehow.

I agree the only money this dev has made is through adds on YouTube which probably does not pay as much on its own and this dev has to make money some how to fund the project so that they do not abandon the project.

Yeah, been looking through the discussions and it seems this guy has a ton to say. Wonder what else he's gonna cherry-pick to whine about.

No if you read the page he clarifies the price and states that it is only a 1 time fee.

Thanks for clearing that up. I thought $100 a month was crazy!

He/she has as much right as the rest of us to post/whine, I hate censorship!

Don't forget the usual hidden US tax, its not 100$ but 130$ dollars in the end.
I was almost tempted but ♥♥♥♥, in euro's its not even worth it, yet. I want to help the game develop and change.

Don't even know when the second phase starts if they want to launch the game in early access next year (Earlier months.) Must be a tight squeeze.

No one is being pressured or forced to but this allows me to be able to fund the development of the game and those who want to be a part of the process early on. I have no investors and this all out of pocket, this is also helpful since these testers provide very constructive feedback

I've said 100 times, EmergeNYC is NOT abandoned and is receiving an update at the end of the year.

Emergency? Never heard of that one! I'll have to check it out!.

EmergeNYC is an emergency (fire fighting mainly) services game developed by Flipswitch games and available here on Steam. The game has been in early access for 6 years (pre-alpha), however, the updates are few and far in between (nothing in over 6 months) and now nothing before the end of the year. The game seriously has the potential to be the best fire fighting game on the market, now that this game is in development I really don't see EmergeNYC being a priority any time soon. After all the missed updates as set by Raf it's hard to believe what he says in his posts.

Why are you so upset about it? Raf is basically the only dev of these games, and ranting to people about how it doesn't get much updating is not going to help. Plus the fact as he said above, its all coming out of his pocket (Excluding the people on patron who are grateful for his work). So you shouldn't be expecting top notch performance from him. :steamfacepalm:

Sorry… censorship?!
I never said anything about not having a right to say whatever. You’re just putting words in my mouth at this point. I’m simply just commenting on how “he/she” has nothing good to say about the developer and his works. In fact, I have the very right to make this comment as well. I mean, the developer (Raf) is a one-man team. So I find it hard to justify criticizing him when he’s doing a lot for us fans. Yes, he’s gotta charge $100 if it’s a means to further his development for this spectacular game, so-be-it. We all want this game but in order to receive it, he’s gotta do what’s necessary.

Point being, I believe one should put themselves in the shoes of Raf (or any single-person game developer for that matter) before making absurd judgments and comments about them and their works. Again, this isn’t a Triple-A studio making the game… it’s ONE person so it’s a bit unfair to jump to judgement so quickly.

Hey dude, if you want to make money while developing games, I recommend getting a security job. You can sit in a desk all day on Unity and they'll pay you minimum wage to do it. At the end of the day you go home with money, investors or not and the more you develop your game, the more hours you'll get paid for. Its a win/win for everyone.
