Can't Earn "Understandings" Achievement

Tried 3 times now getting this achievement. Every time I reach the conflict and communicate back with orange the battle ends but I don't earn the achievement even though I didn't hit orange at all. I missed out on this achievement in my first run and I'm hoping to get it so that I can 100% the game once I finish it.
