How do you get enough food to survive winter?
OK I know that this is an early release game, and it has great potential...But by the time i reach 30 Days(end of winter) im down to me and two hungry villagers no matter how many times i try or what i try to do....How do you get to stockpile enough food to stop vilagers starving or leaving

Get a hunter's hut going and assign 2 villagers there. Preferably someone who already has some levels in ranged combat. If you get lucky, you might get some people with the retired archer trait which makes them suitable for this. Then you can drop some hunting markers in nearby forests and let them go to town. To stretch your food further also make a cooking station and assign someone there - soups make more effective food than plain grilled meat.

I have same problem as Richard main problem is not being able to build a hunter or farm before winter hits i had 2 forager/gatherers and a cook and cook wouldnt cook the yellow or grey mushrooms

Save up throughout the summer n autumn. Or limit your villagers number.

2 gathering huts then 2 hunting towers then 2 farms will feed a few dozen over the winter.

Hunters hut. 2 huntsman in daytime 1 at nightime overflowing of meat. Aside from farm and gathering huts.

Early trick for meat is the damn rabbits, u can sprint after them, crouch first to let them get close, then hit E on them and u can pick them up, drop them into a sleeping hut and they are trapped by u, beat until tender them BBQ. The deer if you shoot them with a single arrow they slow down enough to catch on the run, If you take a sleep first for the stam boost even better!

Don't let the hoe distract you. As your buildings open get them built and a worker on them in the order they open asap. Drop food markers every chance you get while you are looking for blood. Don't worry about dropping flags near spires just not too close. I have watch my hunters walk right down the middle of a large cemetery and no effect. Follow the advice of the other post as well. Research recipes in your cook station by making something first then make it a task. There are some Good Eats to be found. Happy hunting !

Your advise will create more problems for OPM than helping OPM. Why will you need 2 farms and 2 gathering huts! And specially 2 hunting towers? You can assign 3 villagers or even more because I have done only 3 at Farm and just make more plots. That would be much more efficient than making 2 Farms. Same goes for gathering huts, as there is bug with the food gathering marker at this moment, spending on 2 gathering huts is seer foolishness.

I have found in all 3 of my seeds that hunting at night is more efficient during summer, so I always set hunter schedule for night. And as the hunters generally has some fighting perks (as most of us choose hunters that way) they will join the fights to defend from mobs at blood moon if situation arrives.

How many villagers in total did you have? If only 2 then you shouldn't have had problems unless you really messed up your playthrough. I am slow player and take time to learn the ropes but even I survived the winter easily in my first playthrough with 12 villagers. There are seasonal crops which you get to gather as well as cultivate during winter, my winter stockpile was huge number of mushrooms which I was making soup (4 water+4mushrooms) in Cooking house as well as Beetroot vegi which is the only food crop you can cultivate during winter. Cooking house foods are better than BBQ foods. Make sure to set up a settlement with multiple natural water collection stones inside and always set up the cooking house next to one or even better if 2, I have 3 close by in my 1st seed.

Thanks guys. In short i have in some games got to around 14 people (peak) but i seem to loose them just as fast, seemingly due to lack of food (hence this post) leaving me with a big empty village by end of 1st winter
