a few noob questions about carpentry etc

so if i assign a worker in the workshop to make wood planks, will villagers pick them up and use them on pinned construction? i am trying to watch to see but i do not notice anything happening. basically, i finally have villagers gathering hardwood etc, but i cannot figure out how to make it into planks so i was hoping the person at the workshop would make them for me and the villagers would come pick them up and use them?

also, my farmers keep asking me for compost. as far as i know this only comes from rotten food so i almost never have it. they keep bugging me about it instead of working?

Yes, the builder should pick up the planks from the carpentry, if they don't, maybe they are too far away

If the farmers are complaining about compost, they have probably finished everything they can do. In the future we will have a proper compost making facility.

Planks, just drop a whole log on the outer horses that hold the logs than go and harvest it like you would chop down a tree, the other one that makes post or whatever you need to create the SAW looking tool and also place it on the inner horse that holds the log for production.

You need a metal axe for it too. 1 handed one works. But you already have that if your chopping the their 2 trees

The villager working at the workshop with your carpentry addon should be given a "Draw Knife" and a "Crude iron axe" also dont forget to make it a task for him to make those tools, when they break so he doesn't get stuck doing nothing because his tools broke (Click the "Only use refurbished metal" when you assign the task.
