Coop. Server Specific Characters or join friends using own character?
TL;DR. Can I join my friends with my own character progress, or would I need to start over upon joining their world?

I read the FAQ to get a better idea of the game. I'm not too happy with no customizable characters (same with Don't Starve), but they said it was a creative decision so I can respect that. At least it's not as bad (personal preference) as Sons of the Forest having multiple characters but randomly picking for you. But that's just a personal gripe that doesn't reflect the gameplay.

My main concern is regarding joining friends or them joining you. If you each play in their own world, but decide to join each other, do they have to start over in the other world, or do they keep their own progress?
I like Valheim's being able to keep your own character, inventory and skills, as well as Smalland even letting you take your base and stash along with you.
My biggest issue with Palworld was being advertised to play with your friends, and while you can do that, if you play in different servers, you won't be able to really feel like you're joining them, compared to tagging along, unless you build the new character up well.

That's just my issue with server-specific characters. I can understand why they do it for games like ARK (does have options) and SCUM, so you don't dominate the server upon joining, but the players that were there earlier will be dominating instead, so it's more of a personal gripe not being able to join friends at least with current progress.

your character is server bound at the moment so you will need to start from scratch when joining a new server. I can certainly log this feedback though so thank you!

Would be nice to be able to use your own character. At least that way you can keep some progress when playing with and on multiple friends and servers.

Thank you for the confirmation. Much appreciated.
I would like to emphasize that it's more of a personal preference, and not an attack on games that do that.
I'm not sure how grindy the game is for gear/levels/or whatever you need to be formidable, or if you just join a friend's world, get their OP weapons, and are evenly strong without a huge power difference due to leveling up.
I just personally don't like when multiple friends get a high level on their own worlds, join the other, and are killed by everything due to underleveled, so they have to restart the grind just to be half as strong as they already were.

Games like Don't Starve Together that have power tied to gear and base, make it so that if your buddy unlocked everything, you can use their spare weapons and are already there. I still think it's annoying not having my own setup, but at least I don't have to level up 50 levels to fight a boss they're fighting on that world.

Hard to explain, so I like making it a point to say it's just what I enjoy more.
For sure, I met many people that love having to start over to make it fun again. But if they really liked it, I don't see why they don't just start over on their own, without having to be told, but to each their own.

I typically prefer games that do that. Just makes it easier playing with friends not having to organize busy schedules on a mutual world, when most of our time we can't play with each other and are in our own.
Same goes for singelplayer tbh.
I started a game with the longest day setting and after 40 hours I realise my mistake ^^ Normal is to short, longest to long (due to resources growth) :D
Like trees 32 days. Well I'm still on day 30 or smth after all that time ^^.

Wish I could just re-start on a new world on medium setting using my present char.
(or be able to change the daytimer on the started game) but start new would be ok as well.
As mentioned like the system used in Valheim etc.
