At the moment the only sled use is a)Automatic \ villager via routes between markets and b)manual player use.
Apologies if I'm mistaking your context.
Assigning sleds and wagons to villagers for routine work, e.g., woodcutting, is an often-requested feature.
The current accepted strategy, as far as I know, is to build an outpost in a new area which has plentiful resources and set up a market run between that area and your primary location.
