Invasions and the Eye of Odin
Just a question. Not sure if it was changed somewhere along the way or not I'm only one patch new to the game.
From what I have searched on google, the attacks spawn near your Eye of Odin and they tend to attack Gates>Walls>Work Stations>Warehouses pretty much anything on the way to the Eye.
I have been seeing some things where people are just putting the Eye far from their base and the enemies attack there and never their base.

Does this still hold true? Do the attacks/invasions spawn near the Eye and not the player? I'm just wondering because if this is true then you could technically have the Invasion portal spawn across the map instead of next to your base, then by the time they traveled to your base the night would be over.

So has this been changed or does the mechanic still work like this?

they go after the eye no mater where they spawn. But will attach anything and everything that attracts their attention a long the way.

So if I never build an Eye of Odin they won't come near me? I'm Just wondering because I like to plan out my base layout and flatten where need be and arrange the buildings. Just wondering if I don't build an Eye will they still attack the base.

I did get attacked while exploring the map during the day 3 Blood Moon, they spawned about 50m from me and just followed me forever till I killed them, because I wasn't waiting till morning lol.

So I'm wondering if the Blood Moon events are "Spawn Near Player" and the Invasion "Portal" that spawns is "Spawn Near Eye of Odin".

Yep, they like to spawn away from things (not close to eye), but then head directly for the Eye. You can even see in the orientation of the portal is pointed toward the eye.

Pathing to the eye matters as well. See my recent post about the portal spawning right in/next to the large spire!

I didn't mention in that post that for the 3rd winter I had fixed some pathing next the Eye and the portal showed up basically opposite direction from the spire.

They use a 'heat map' to determine weak points in walls and population density it seems.

Enemies prefer to use roads as well. So if you are trying to predict where the invasion is headed, they will use nearby roads.

So, yes, you could make a steep sided hill, well away from village and perch the eye up there maybe with walls to protect from arrows and jump up to get at and use the eye. Enemies wouldn't know what to do out there by themselves. ;(

Me, I'm a put it at center of everything type! Prepare my warrior/archers and usually take the fight to them! (see my videos section)

Bloodmoon event has similar rules as the portals but do seem to spawn closer.

Without Eye of Odin, invasions will still happen they will head for player I think. Specifically your location when they spawn. So if you move away from there they only pursue from there if they see you.

Ya, I have nothing built as far as buildings or campfires.. Just going to see what happens lol. I want to see where the portal spawns if nothing is built.

You might need a fire for the first winter but as soon as spring hits destroy it. The portal will spawn mid spring for the winter invasion (your second winter)

...on normal settings
