Resource collecting, invasions, keep your people alive and well fed. Surviving the winter was very challenging my first couple of times playing. It has a decent learning curve. You can think of an RTS in a sense as well.
But the game has amazing ambiance and if building an impressive village with some nice scenery sounds good to you then give it a shot.
Your house is a set building with some storage, fireplace, armor rack and bed. Everything is preset. other than perhaps the longhouse, where you can load the place up with beds for max housing, or "design" what you want in the place, which is limited.
The real fun is getting your town self sufficient, defended, and running smooth while keeping gear and tools in stock.
Game does fall off once you reach this point, once you built everything and have everything running smooth. Getting to that point can take a long time though. They seem to add to the game frequently to warrant starting fresh
