ASKA
Please make resources respawn
From what I have read it seems like some resources in this game respawn and some don't, also that some people needed more resources than were available and some had plenty. In my opinion whether you will ever need extra resources or not in your playthrough, I think it would be a good idea to make them respawnable either way. In this case wood and iron.
Here are a couple of ideas as to how to make these to resources respawnable:
- Trees could have a chance of dropping seeds when you chop them down just like the crops to when you harvest them.
- Once a certain amount of days have passed or a certain amount of resources have been depleted from the island, salvageable shipwrecks could start showing up along the coast. You'd be able to harvest would from the ship itself with your axe and iron could be harvestable from say rusted pieces of armor or weapons found aboard the ship.
If full on shipwrecks are too big, driftwood washed ashore and pieces of iron could work as well. Scouring the shoreline for washed up resources doesn't seem like the worst idea if you do happen to run low and even if resources washed ashore and not a shipwreck you could still make it so you actually have to harvest it, say a piece of a mast or a somewhat rotten log, you'd have to use an axe to get the good pieces from that, or a lump or rusted twisted iron weapon, you'd still need a pickaxe to pry it apart and then melt the scraps as you otherwise also would when mining.

Hey, I answered recently to a review which presented similar concerns regarding limited resources, I'll shamelessly proceed to quoting myself

Hi there, just want to clarify that apart from wood and iron, all resources are renewable, and both wood and iron come with a little asterisk (*)

Wood is not renewable, but it's absolutely overly abundant, we've yet to meet the player capable of chopping all the trees. Even so, we do plan on making the trees regrow, but it hasn't been a priority since there are still big parts of the game we need to add. But tree regrowth will be a feature.

Iron is finite at the moment, every main island has 3 iron mines, spread across the map, however they're 3 very bountiful mines, finishing that much iron means it's already a very very long run. And even so, if you finish the mines, enemies will drop metal scraps which can be smelted into new iron AND iron tools and weapons can be recycled.

From our most experienced players we know that it takes around 200-300 in-game days to clear out 2 of the 3 iron mines, which would translate into 80-120 hours of gameplay in one run.

Similar to RTS games, part of the game is adapting your supply lines and resource production sites to the environment, setting up new outposts and securing supply lines to the main settlement.

What I will add is that we do want to do tree regrowth, but you will absolutely not run out of wood in our current world.

I'm on day 143 on this run and I've not cleared out any of the mines, took a little from the one near my base at the start but I think there's loads left inside, no idea how much, haven't been inside it for about three years.

I left all my villagers on wood tools and normal leather/linen armour, I'm the only one using metal aside from a few buildings. I've got more metal coming in from enemies attacking my base and me attacking theirs than I can realistically use, I'm running out of places to store it.

'In one run', what if you don't want to play for a bit, however long that may be and then have to start over because you run out? Personally I'm looking to make a world that will become self sustainable and one that I can keep playing in forever. I'm glad to hear that you will add renewable wood though :)

@The Sad Snail

Thanks for taking the time to let us know about the tree regrowth that is planned. It’s a good idea imho. We deforested such a huge area for the logs to build our wall, that I would like some more trees back to block out the white fog.

Also, I really like how Aska game does the resource gathering. It’s a lot more fun and engaging, than in a game like Palworld; where I just build a tree gathering building in my base and get infinite wood. Cheers on a cool game.

Thanks for the possibility of tree regrowth in the future :steamhappy: @The Sad Snail

I'm curious about the non-renewable resources if they will be an incentive to go raiding. On their roadmap of the next few updates, they have seafaring and raiding mentioned. So those resources may not be renewable on the starting island, but perhaps they will be through raiding (kind of like the whole reason norsemen needed to raid in the first place, for resources they didn't have/couldn't get).
