ASKA
Farming growth development
Hey everyone, so I’ve been wondering how exactly the growth rates are determined in aska. Is it determined by season change? Or in-game days? I recently started a save with extended seasons and extended days, however, my farms are almost useless as they just can’t produce fast enough. It takes the crops twice, if not three times as long to grow now; even with compost. Meanwhile, my villagers are consuming double the resources because the days are now longer. So what is the hold up here? Is it the season changing, or the in-game days? Thanks in advance for the help :)

They do take ages with the extra time settings. However, this also gives you time to layout more. Each farm can support 3 4x4 plots. So make sure you have multiple farms with both a day and night shift.

Also, they suck up water by the truck load. I've got 3 wells nearby and over 30 rain collectors and most of those are empty by midday. I'm thinking of dedicating a warehouse space in the middle with a whole bunch of water containers to hold the vast quantities of water needed.

I really love the extra time settings, but it presents a whole array of new problems to solve. In winter, they will only produce flax, so I'll move most of the staff onto hunting lodges. But with 2 farms going, I cant use up all the food they produce fast enough, so they do make a lot once they get going. Also, their skill levels increase and the farmer become much better at farming.

yeah those are the imbalances i think, ive realized first winter in my extended day, flat land, custom game realizing i need to feed my people like 2x as much due to extended time awake. Im not sure on the crops havent really watched it.

I likely wouldnt do extended days again.

If anything ill at least be able to build with a decent plan with custom games since the flat landscape option turned out great for that. Ive never relied on farms for much more than a flax supply really so impact isnt massive on the farming.

In my previous games, I was able to grow beetroot in the winter too. They should start spawning in fall, and you should definitely stock up on beetroot seeds then. You may have to run around a gather a bunch of them yourself, though, especially for the first winter.

I have my game set for maximum day and season. Want to get as much done as I can, slowly. I will most likely regret this come winter. Also trying as a solo player. I have noticed that about every 20 minutes in game day, I need to water and about every 45 minutes in game day, I need to weed. This is too much, watering and weeding that often, is not feasible, certainly not plausible. This mechanic definitely needs work.
