Which weapon do you prefer?
Finally got into the iron age and so far I have been using the 2h club which felt quite good. Now we have a lot more options - swords, axes and hammers. What is your preference and why?

Well I have the longbow of course, but I was wondering with which meelee weapon to combine it since I am always low on ammo.

I also prefer the bow, but my backup weapon is usually the knife of all things. I always have it on me especially when hunting, it's still got a pretty fast swing speed, and i can still pull the "hit and run" tactics i do with the bow. If not the knife, then it's usually my axe (the smaller iron axe that gets the birch, also still pretty fast). Tend to use the axe for specifically undead, like on blood moon nights if i ran out of arrows. Knife can be great but a bunch of them come with two handed weapons with wide swings that you will often get smacked by if you stick to the knife. With the axe i can usually wear out their stamina and then beat them dead before they can do much, if anything, to me....Though if it's something like an invasion that may include followers I just stock up on a second bow and abundant arrows ahead of time, still havent figured out how to murder bouncing hulk with melee.

Sword and shield. The sword was easier to kill wulfar with. The shield is for tanking some of the bigger creatures, like the bosses and bears.

I personally find the bow mechanics ridiculous. Aiming and charging shots is ridiculously too slow. Real archers draw and fire in one continuous motion. You don't slowly slowly slowly pull back a longbow, and you definitely don't hold it continuously at max draw.

I never use the bow. I'm 1hn + Shield all the way. You absolutely need a shield against Hogger the Relentless and multiple Drauger. The combat is still sufficiently clunky that you can punish droves of enemies while maintaining some semblance of defense.

Huh that is interesting. I tried a shield once but it broke after like 3 hits so I never bothered with it again. The 2 handed club depletes the stamina of the enemies really quickly and stuns them.
So I was thinking about going for another 2h weapon. Never would have thought to use a knife.

Heavy attacks, no matter the weapon, stagger enemies.

I prefer sword and board when I'm not shooting with a bow. Problem is I haven't gotten the resources for that yet boosting npcs so I've been 2h pickaxing or hammering everything that comes close.

don't use TOOLS to fight, once you get any fighting skill they do significantly less damage since tools dont scale damage wwith fighting skill, only WEAPONS do

Hah, yeah, silly me. X) I like to use one handed axe as Aska, because she lacks a bit of strength. When I do a Ragnar Session it is the two handed hammer. No shields.

I carry all three: sword, one-handed battle ax and two-handed sword. I usually use the first two since they swing faster. I carry all three so that I do not have to worry about breaking one too soon. I have not used the two-handed battle ax much or made it in some sessions.
I even occasionally use the bow or long bow. Of course, that is just my preference.

I build a one handed iron sword and have to say I am quite impressed. needs 3 fast hits to stagger a wolf (probably two if my skill wasn't as low as 7 in meelee) and it also dies quickly. big upgrade. there are like 4 shields available, not sure which one I should make

ill be honest im not playing the game to kill the bosses yet. so i carry the 2 handed axe and a bow. my primary for invasions and such are the 30+ barrack soldiers i have. most of them have 2 handed axes also.

I don't like how sluggish the combat feels, especially with the weird delayed attack thing (if you get knocked down when attacking sometimes you get up and attack again even if you haven't tried to do so). So I use the longbow at range, which often staggers the enemies, and if they survive to get into melee I use the 2-handed sword, because that will stagger most enemies or kill them, and the sweep is wide enough that when you're doing that glitchy attack thing you might still hit someone.
