why does my wood cutter not put stuff away?
I didn't notice an issue at first (maybe i just was putting them away like the neat freak i am). Now my wood cutter just commits arboreal slaughter and doesn't think to just pick up the sticks, long sticks, logs. "Heck no bud, these trees have it coming" is her battle cry. but seriously am i missing something? i tried removing her axes and she just yells at me for axes. i tried to assign and to unassign. I tried playing with the items i wanted her to collect in the collection menu and only had her going for long sticks. Nope, forest is half gone, long sticks are freaking everywhere but the holder that's empty now, and go old ragna is waging war on all arboreal kind with an axe the size of a small cow. Help???

Wood cutters are chaos incarnate, they dont wanna watch the world burn they wanna see it fall lol. Kind of, but mostly joking. :cozybethesda:

They are notorious for the mess though. Priorities can help a bit, keeping them at only one placed flag specifically where youd like to not see trees anymore can help a bit, but I also tend to partner woodcutting flags with building resource flags. I don't always need the woodcutter to bring the logs/long sticks back as long as the builders can find and use them before the woodcutter decides i need yet more sticks but dont need logs.

You can also set up a warehouse, won't help the woodcutter stock their station, but the warehouse worker is intrusively tidy in their own way and make great little clean up crews (and with some tinkering you can figure out how to best set up your supply chains to help reduce the explosive woodcutter to, usually boils down to the warehouse worker stealing the logs/long sticks faster than the woodcutter can haul them back in so they are at least less inclined to rip everything apart into its most basic resources and you have a nice stockpile to build or repair with even when they do rip things apart). Oddly enough, my woodcutter in my own games tends to double as the warehouse worker for my lumber storage warehouse in the earlier game to. Whenever the mess gets to be a bit too much they get taken off the wood cutter and tasked specifically with cleanup instead basically (though i tend to keep low populations at the beginning so a lot of my people get swapped between stations as i need them since i dont have enough to have everything staffed).

the problem is when your wood cutter brings back firewood. they won't uproot a stump so they'll break down logs. When they do this they create firewood/bark/resin/sticks Since they're usually full on those resources they tend to leave them on the ground. The best way to fix this is to stop using the wood cutter for gathering firewood. Instead break down the stumps and let your coalmaker and warehouse worker do the job. I notice my wood workers stopped breaking down logs and trees when they don't need to.

My main game looks like a tree graveyard. It's like the scenario in Ferngully where the good guys lost.

Just an update. Ragna now perpetually carries a long stick and mindlessly runs around the woods scaring smolkr and honestly myself. I made her a guard and funny enough doesn't claim she needs a 2 handed weapon. scary

Lol clear cutting is my favorite. No wind breaking trees for me. Let it blow!

I believe it's because they need to fill the resin bin but trees drop only a handful of resin - hence the arboreal slaughter (my new fave term btw).

I hope they balance tree materials eventually - maybe each glob of resin dropped by a tree is 5 units. For now I turn resin off and it does cut down on the trees being cut down ;)

It's bad now...no trees just...fields of sticks and firewood. I found out it's because I asked them to get fiber. Appearently it's worth it to chop and entire tree just to break down bark....just madness...how much more sap must Ragnar and lars spill...oh yeah I decided it'd be a good idea to give her a mate. They responded...appropriately
