what do skill levels actually do?
so is there any kind of a chart etc yet that shows what skills actually do?

for instance, what is the difference between melee skill 1 vs. melee skill 100?
100% more damage? 50% more damage? 20% more damage?

would be great to have this info. thanks all for answers.

Hey there, based on the attribute, proficiency influences either the speed with which you perform an action, the amount of resources you get from an action or the damage you deal when performing the action.

Combat and harvesting skills have the most profound effect as they visibly raise your damage. 15-20 levels in woodcutting will have you clearing 300HP trees with the large stone axe in a few hits, same for stonecutting - once you get to 20-30 stonecutting the Jotun Blood Shards and Stone Clumps are nothing compared to your godly muscle density.

And for melee and ranged combat, a decent proficiency and a somewhat decent weapon (I'm not even talking about the current end-game iron weapons) will see you clearing existing mobs in 1-2 hits.

We will probably end up capping damage output based on the tool or weapon, but right now if you get a stone tool and +50 proficiency in anything you're basically God. We also have a cohort of baddies we haven't yet added in the game which will definitely not be one-shottable.

For charts, that's a question for the community!
