What happens after all the Ore Mines run out?
I'm on day 67 and my first mine is depleted, as far as I know there are an additional 2 mines. What happens after the other 2 gets cleared out? Also, my villagers have a pickaxe and torch, but they just stand outside the mine. I've already cleared all the creeps and there is still some digging to be done. Any advice? TIA

If you have gone through all that iron I assume you were giving iron tools to villagers. I don't bother. I only make iron items myself and only use them myself. I might give one woodcutter the iron axe to chop down hardwood for me but I tend to just plant a building supplies and woodcutter marker in a hardwood area, cut down some trees myself with two handed axe and let them pick it all up. Day 120 and not gone through 1 mine yet. I don't see the value in giving villagers iron tools at this point until they can't actually do what I want them to. Just a thought. The only other people to get iron weapons are my handful of fighters and again I make them.

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. I do agree on not giving them iron tools, except for the Hardwood lumberjack. I was just curious to see if there might be something down the line in order for mines to either collapse or an event that can happen to let the mines to restock again and not limit you to a certain day when the Iron runs out. Any advice for Villagers not wanting to work in the mine or do you do the mining yourself?

If not for the tools, what about armor? Most of it costs nails or plates and it decays over time. With my ~55 days I haven't reached the point where decay matters, but in longer games with more fighting I guess it can happen?

I just don't want the game dying off because you can only play it for a x amount of days then you're out of resources. Everyone's playstyle is different and some progress faster than others.

the problem i run into with the iron stuff given it to villagers the storage for when they break is limited an they will drop the item some where before they store it were it needs to go . i have had the happen a few times . im thinking about dieing on my main guy an taken control of one my main fighter's that has 80 combat an almost 100 range . cause i can never find the time to train it my self . due to the attacks that happen an the blood moon .

I also don't make armour. They seem to be managing fine without it and I only just started making thick linen pants to go with the thick linen top, or whatever it is, not at the computer. I don't make any for myself either. I just don't stand there taking hits like in ark for example. In fact the last invasion none of my people got involved. I went out to meet the invasion and pretty much did them in myself with two handed iron sword. Hoping it gets harder as my village grows again.

With regards to mining, I tend to just run in and smash the walls myself with iron pickaxe then let the stone cutter and or builders gather it. I smelt all the iron myself so I don't waste any.

The majority of stuff I let the villagers do though. One thing I did do was employ two cooks in the cookhouse. One working day shift and one night shift. Seems to have improved my output a good deal as my two uncooked food storage bins were full and not enough coming out the cookhouse

Thing is, take all the advice you can get and apply what works for you. If there was only one strict way of playing by doing a, b, and c in order then it would be boring.

There is an option you can click at making tools to only use recycled metal parts. Do this on time before you are stuck with a large amount of iron hammerheads etc. Also build a metal part storage to collect those parts in the warehouse.

Also, I usually have a lot of resin spare and on the ground so I turn off collecting it once I have full storage and leave a trail like breadcrumbs in the mine so I don't need torches. I just use z (now mapped to mouse thumb key) to follow the breadcrumbs. It's a b*gger though when I forget and reset the collection.

At this point with the limited resources it's pretty much game over, I'm now having issues with trees, I cut down all the trees near my village and my villagers have to walk farther and farther away from my village just to get logs and long sticks, hard wood is even harder to find. I feel like the Devs making needed resources limited is a big oversight to anyone who just wants to build a nice village.
Stone isn't too big of a deal because you get bunches from the Dranger guys, but nail pretty much replace rope, on the 3rd upgrade, so running out of iron is like running out of fiber. And logs and long sticks are needed to repair most buildings and walls when I get attacked.

If you assign any villagers to do the iron crafting they will spoil the ore. Happened everytime. So now, I'm just making iron for my own and if I'm going to arm some villagers that I assigned for patrol. And that's about it. The miner sometime I took them out of the mining job if I'm not creating any stuffs with iron. At least iron ore there's not a rotten timer I think or for now.

I think their skill level has a lot to do with them wasting ore, my guy is level 100 and he does a really good job now, I also moved my coal maker to help him instead of following me around telling me he has no space, since he can produce coal faster then they use it
