Anyone know whether these can become active at some point?

Hey there, they should mostly be active but if you think its a bug please do raise it in the subforums using the template provided.

I have also run across this. I'm confused by your response: why are you asking US if we think it's a bug? We are trying to ask you/the community if this is a bug or what the functionality actually is.

I think everyone who is playing the game or played the game has seen wolf den like structures which are empty and we just thought it's game design but now you've said something different. Did you misunderstand the OP?

+1, she probably misunderstood the OP, though I hope it's not rude of me to guess that. She is quite busy checking all the posts on forum and replying to them. There are many Wolf den like structures in seeds which are empty for everyone.

If you're thinking of setting up your base or some extensions for farming woods, stone etc near those Wolf den looking POIs (Point of Interest), I would recommend avoiding that because AFAIK if you kill the wolf den boss, the wolf den will go inactive till next year in game time. So we never know if those Wolf den looking POIs will get active at any point or not.

I did indeed not read this properly, sorry tribe! Some of the wolf dens will naturally just be inactive [something something its a feature not a bug]

Thank you very much for the response! Do you happen to know if they become active at all at some point while you play, and how?

I had actually assumed that they were inactive for optimization purposes.

The wulfar dens that are inacive when you first spawn in, does the inactive ones ever become active or are they permanently inactive?

Well, with the recent addition of map generation, I think it would depend now on the number of mobs you select. Though I started a new game after this update. I haven't tested anything on an existing save.

Everytime when i make a newstart, the Wulfgardan"s sometimes inactive"
But mostly only for the first day"
I never had it that they don"t spawn"
Sometimes also my cemestry"s are empty on some days and than they all back"
I like that" ;)"

I think there's a limit on how many dens are activated on the seed based on difficulty.

In my experience, the inactive dens (which appear grey on the map) do eventually reactivate. You will see a message like "The monsters have returned to the den" at some point.

I do think there may be some inconsistent behavior with wolf den display. I've killed Fenrir multiple times. One one occasion, I got a message that the den has been cleared (similar to clearing an enemy site) but on another occasion I did not receive the message and the den stayed red on my map.

Seems a good rule of thumb is if the site is grey or inactive when you first stumble across it, it may very well reactivate later so respect the distance when making new settlements.
I defeated a would den thinking it would come back and it hasnt yet. It's been over five in game years lol. Will it come back? It would actually be very helpful to me. Thanks.

Given that the threat is always localized with the dens I wish they were all active by default. I'm totally OK with the 1-year clearance mechanism if it's working, but lately the ones I've cleared, i.e. defeated Fenrir, I'm not seeing them come back at all, like Saltysugar mentioned. They're a valueable source of pelts and meat and I wish they would renew.

If you are just watching the map to see if it changes back to active - it will not.
You have to visit the location for it to update the status.
