If he's on day 2, as a new player, he might have a hut and fire built. The healer hut isn't going to come into play until he's died several times at this rate.
As you get farther, you get more options like the ability to make meals (some of which also heal) or the healing hut. Healing hut is one you will want to get up pretty early if you can, even without a villager assigned to it you heal a whole lot faster when resting there than you do a regular bed (as long as you light the fire).
