Why do I need a water barrel?

To store extra water. If you’re having issues with villagers draining a well, stocking water barrels helps… I used one in my first game when I built on the beach with no wells using multiple rain collectors to keep it full. Villagers would drink from the barrel when the rain collectors were empty and the guy at the warehouse would restock it.

also when you start farming and using the cookhouse they drain water fast at intervals so always handy to keep 1 or 2 in a warehouse

so npc's dont dehydrate, cooks can use water, farms can use water. if they are not near a water source. Make sure to top it up with NPC or do it yourself.
