thats why you play this
Soulmask, Bellwright, Abiotic Factor, Enshrouded, Core Keeper…
This one is more like Oxygen not included than any of the other survival games such as Valheim. The base builder/Colonist feature makes it a different game entirely.
Havent played the others, but Enshrouded has nothing to do with ASKA other than the basic survival stuff of hunger and thirst.
What makes this unique is the AI of the villagers. They work for you, but it's not a case of you assign them and you get +5 stone per minute or whatever. They actually go out in the map, hit the stone the same way you would, bring it back the same way you would. Not many games attempt this level of AI and incorporate and then inserted it into a first person town builder / survival combo.
It leaves a lot to be desired, it's kinda shallow and not a lot of content, but it's early days and i'm quite impressed with the level of polish. I've seen next to no bugs at all.
Including in the AI itself, it seems to run very well, doesn't get stuck, gets on with things etc, which is very surprising when you consider the complexity of such a freeform AI.
Ultimately there isn't really all that much to do right now compared to some other games but it's a pretty nice foundation of hopefully something greater.
Never said they were like Aska, just that they were the other survival craft games in early access.
Soulmask and Bellwright are the two closest to Aska with villager systems.
That’s not as unique as you believe… both Soulmask and Bellwright have similar mechanics for handling villagers/tribesmen. I came here after playing Soulmask because I dislike all the RNG in Soulmask and chose this over Bellwright because of the Viking theme.
You can starve, die from dehydration, freeze to death, need to harvest resources, build shelters and crafting stations… that’s the core of a survival craft game. Just because you can automate parts doesn’t change that because you can automate it in Minecraft.
I've come to a realisation over time that the only common denominator between survival games is eating food. If you have to eat food and drink to survive, it's a survival game.
This is the most incorrect, yet oddly righteously angry, take about a game I have ever seen.
