[Your suggestions here] Friday Stream Show & Tell!
About stream
Every Friday we host a developer stream on Twitch[www.twitch.tv]. During the stream we try to show as much of the game as possible, especially things like:
  • The villager system. How they work and just how powerful they are.
  • World gen. How each run is unique, requiring scouting, exploration and planning.
  • Village management. How to set up a village, what each building does and how they upgrade.
  • Survival, hunting, harvesting, farming, combat.
  • What makes ASKA different in spite of the familiar themes.
Comment with what you'd like us to showcase in the stream
To that end, if you have any questions or curiosities about the game, drop a comment below. We'll do our best to cover them in each week's upcoming stream.

Examples:
  • Is there a farming system? Can we see it?
  • How do the biomes work? What kind of biomes are there?
  • What enemies are in the game? Can we see them?
  • Is there fishing?
  • Why are your buildings prefabs/blueprints and not free-build?

We're very open when discussing our game and we're prone to spiralling into very long design talks, so beware :wololo: I will ask you however to comment in good faith.

After we answer a question during a stream I'll comment with the link to the stream where the topic is covered. Good luck!

The thing this game absolutely needs first and foremost is the ability to toggle between holding or tapping E to gather/craft, I simply cannot see how my fingers extra physical work in real life has any impact on the time constraints something might take to craft.
And it completely destroys the ability to efficiently play any idle clicker games on the side like OSRS which is a complete deal breaker in all honesty and devolvement of the user experience.

FORCING HOLD TO GATHER IS OBJECTIVELY HORRIBLE!!!!

IMO, this is an immersion thing. If you're grabbing one thing as you go by, it's a quick action you just tap. If you're gathering a bunch of things or performing some extended action, you hold down.

That said, from an accessibility standpoint or simplifying standpoint, a setting that allows single "tapping" would be really nice.
GIVE THE TOOL. WHICH CAN REMOVE OR DESTROY ROCKS. WHY CAN THEY NOT BE DESTROYED LIKE ORDINARY STONES. SOMETIMES THERE ARE A LOT OF THEM AND THEY INTERFERE WITH BUILDING A SETTLEMENT.
Any chance of character strafing ( step left or right ) ?
Please add Forester that can remove trunks and plaint trees.

Or make wood cutters remove the tree trunks as well and not removing the automatically spawned tree sprouts.

I'm removing tree trunks like 5 days in a row now hahaha :)

If you add small amount of tree resin into each tree trunk will be awesome.

Thanks in advance.

A pine cone or acorn (tree seeds) storage on the Wood Cutters would be great.
It could be another task (low priority by default) but something they could do instead of complaining that their storage is full.

Please god no, I have so much resin stockpiled and it fills my woodcutter when they could be collecting Fibre instead :steamsad:

Have Gatherer's gather thatch, and Woodcutters sticks from dwarf spruce.
This! totally agree
I’d like to suggest a few improvements to enhance gameplay experience:

1. **Map Marker System**: It would be helpful to have the option to move map markers by 10-20 meters. Alternatively, an upgrade to worker abilities for further exploration could be introduced. For example, I’ve placed 61 food markers, but there’s no food available, and my gatherers are constantly asking for more.

2. **Food and Starvation**: Despite having 30 villagers and 2 farms with 3 people each more than 50 fields , I’m in a constant struggle with starvation. Villagers are eating raw ingredients, and there’s nothing left to prepare proper meals.
Fields need to be watered automatically when it rains.

3. **Coal Maker Issue**: The coal maker is standing in a cut-down forest and is asking for firewood, which seems counterintuitive.

4. **Iron Bloomer and Storage**: The iron bloomer worker keeps requesting more storage because the metalworkers can’t place iron blooms in the storage area. This could be addressed by improving storage handling.

5. **Wildlife and Hunting**: The wildlife seems to be going extinct despite having only 2 hunters roaming the map. It would be great to adjust the wildlife re-spawn rate and hunting yields to make the game more balanced.

6. **Cart Workers and Wood**: Workers loading carts seem to prioritize taking wood from the cart instead of the wood that’s already on the ground, which slows down the loading process.

7. **Safety Concerns**: Villagers are asking for safety while sleeping under guard towers. This might be something worth looking into to ensure that villagers feel secure at night.

8. **Achievements**: The achievements system isn’t functioning as expected. It would be nice to see this fixed for a more rewarding experience.

9. **Timer Durations**: The timers for activities like skinning, harvesting, loading water, and lighting fires are inconsistent. It would be good if these all had the same duration for better balance.

10. **Food Distribution Issue**: Villagers are taking 3 plates of food, which results in others starving, even though there are 20 villagers with food in their inventories. It seems unfair for people to die of starvation when enough food has been prepared but isn’t being distributed properly.

These are just a few areas where I think adjustments would make the game experience more enjoyable and smoother!

Stamina and do something about the villagers not taking just 1 piece of meat, taking the entire stack and keeping it in their inventory...
we need to be able to either have dedicated servers or up the player slots to like 6-10
Game is nice. Would like to see update on some issues I have encountered.
-Found it hard to manage the iron process making set amount of tools. One carpenter ended up having 5 draw knife at some point and I wanted only 2 max, 1 using it and 1 extra when the first is getting repaired. A counter to make items like: "Do x times, Do till x items are in the entire colony, Do forever" like in Rimworld. Need better system to manage crafting count as mixing warehouse and crafting buildings storage makes it messy. Hope villagers dont trow away broken tools.
-Had mining outpost very very far away and had to set up trade to deliver food and wood, collecting iron ore. Villager was dropping the cart and walking back home during the night. Need to add an option to collect items from warehouse when coming back from a delivery.
Didnt know I had to set up camp next to the cave.
-Seeds need an use other than planting.
-Need a way to destroy or scrap items.
-Need fps optimization
Overall had a great time playing Aska, hope my feedback is helping and I look forward to any updates
"online save"
I think it would be good to add "online save". I usually live in two different towns, every 2 weeks I'm always in one of the two towns because of my work. And I can't continue where I left off. Because it only finds the save locally if I'm in single player mode. And I don't like playing in multiplayer mode. I haven't tested whether it can find the save when I'm in multiplayer mode.

So you could transport your save physically (usb flash drive)?!
It is easy to build a small road, but it is difficult to build a big road. It is not as easy as making the ground level.

Why a wide road? Just wondering. Any pictures?
In the storage warehouse you can set a number for the different materials based on how much the storages you've built can hold, which is great - could this be added to the different huts? Like, I have a MILLION of one type of long sticks but both go into the log stick storage on the woodcutter's hut, could you maybe make it to where we could set x amount of one, x amount of the other the way it can be done in the warehouse?

Also please, please, please fix the dogs. I love them. Seeing the kennel brought me so much joy. I want a million dogs. However... Right now they're worthless and actually a detriment to the village. They eat so much constantly somehow more than the villagers who already eat so much, will just starve to death if you set it to guard an area/person that isn't the kennel, and it's so micromanagey. They're just not worth having. I would love if I could assign a dog to a building and then when hungry they automatically go get meat from the nearest kennel so long as there is a person assigned to the kennel. I would also love if I assign a dog to a villager that the villager automatically takes over feeding him and has a slot specifically for raw meat or something to do so maybe? I don't know how this would work but something has to give to balance the dogs, please. They're squishy, consume all the resources, and can't guard without starving to death unless you guard with them for when they get hungry which defeats the point to me. Also for some reason my kennel workers are not actually feeding the dogs or adding meat to their bowls? Random builders have been running by and adding cooked meat to them - another issue, it says raw meat specifically but allows for both so it should either just say meat and allow for both with the dogs eating both or not accept cooked if that isn't the case - but the kennel workers themselves have done nothing? And it cannot be that I don't have meat because I had two full hunter's huts and all my cooking areas filled with supplies, with both nearby to the different kennels I had added. It was very strange.

Can we have bags also please? There's not a lot of inventory space and the villagers make dumb choices with it, yet the weaver is chasing me around saying he needs a bag... But I haven't found a bag to give him? I may just be missing something but I have 67 hours on record already so if I am please advise, he is driving me bananas chasing me down to complain about a bag that doesn't exist.

Please also a terraforming update. God I need a terraforming update. I know someone else said it at the very start of this thread but only being able to set for a 5x5 area at one time sucks so much. Constantly re-terraforming to go hoe it to come back to do it again is just so grindy and takes all the fun out of early game of just trying to do a basic set up for your settlement.

Speaking of early game, getting through it sucks at the moment. It's so grindy for many reasons but a lot were already said so I won't harp on about them but -- can we add a custom game option for having things already unlocked? I get that every new game is a new settlement etc but like... I didn't just "forget" that after a torch I could make a stone lantern etc. It would be cool to be able to say I've played before and load in with everything unlocked if I choose to make it a custom game so I don't have to start all over with every different friend group and can choose to actually plan out and lay out my village as I go with the final buildings in mind instead of building them then destroying them to build the ones you actually want, etc. The latter is specifically because when you dismantle and everything falls it gets really wonky with things floating/flying, things sticking straight up, etc and it has caused lag when playing with friends if I dismantle too much at once such as redoing the fencing to add more area or removing the shelters after building cottages, etc.

Speaking of building and destroying - can we get an easier way with gates? From what I've seen they're apparently not the same size when you upgrade them? But it makes going back to add different things impossible. It also would be cool to have a better system for locking on both sides. I know you can right click to "snap" into place on one side but when closing your fence with a fence or a gate you have to do all types of disjointed angles to get the fence to kind of sort of close off. It would be cool if there was an innate way that it would just grow to fit the space or something if the gap is that small and snaps to both. If this is already a thing please advise, because all the right clicks in the world didn't help me and it was always like a pick one side over the other build process.

Also can you post the road map as a pinned thread in here as well, instead of just on the discord? I apologize if I missed it but I joined the discord specifically for it while much preferring to just be able to check info for my games in Steam, instead of having to do multiple apps just to see what plans are. Speaking of the road map, more details would be great. The image for deets is great at first look but it doesn't give any real info. I've seen other games do percentages towards completion, more info on specific additions that are being worked on, etc. Meanwhile in the discord there's a picture announcing what has been done and saying a brief title for what will come but nothing of substance. I like having more info and substance with road maps personally, so I can see what is already in the works and not ask for it because I don't know it's already on your radar, etc. I think it also alleviates frustrations for the QOL issues that may already be in the works - and I've seen in this thread alone where a dev has replied saying oh this is something we're planning on, so it would be cool to just have a space where that's outlined in advance is all instead of having to attempt to comb through 50 pages of comments.

And just a retweet shout out to whoever had the idea for a specific inventory for tools/weapons. Why are my villagers just tossing weapons? Yes, get the tools you need for your job, but keep a weapon on you just in case if I'm giving you one or there's one available and you have space for it. This is especially true when the person is set as part of your militia, versus running to get one when a threat comes and back and wasting so much time.

Last thing, sorry this is long - clothing. My weaver is just throwing clothing on the floor. He has four mannequins to put clothes on and my floor is littered with flimsy shoes. Please put the shoes on the mannequins, bud. You're doing a great job but why are they on the floor inside your workshop? Why are they on the FLOOR? It drives me a little insane, especially in combination with getting the alert that it had been dropped and me running up on him to remove that from his list so it wouldn't be a flood of just shoes (again) because I dared to leave him to his own devices for a day with a list of 20 tasks he could do but he chose only one and made me want to choose violence.

Anyway I say all this to say I actually really love the game. It's clearly in early access but I have 67 hours on it already. I've restarted several times, have different multiplayer saves, etc. I can't wait to see what comes in 2025.
