How do I get a rare fish in the game?

Look for them jumping around in the water. Usually they are too far out from shore to reach, I guess in that case you need the upgrading fishing hut that has boats. But I lucked out and had one close enough that I could fish it from shore. I think you can be a little bit short of where they are actually jumping, it marks a pretty generous circle around them.
