Wolf-Dogs
quite easy: nice but too much effort for the benefit they bring
1) they eat way too much (its like a full stack of meat every minute or so), thats abnormal
2) the script for them to eat automaticaly does not work well, the pet menu needs to feed them by hand,
3) also it would help when we could just add meat to the kennel and they would eat themselves, but they do not realy do
4) and as said, eat way too much, not worth it

build a Kennel, create a wolfar pup trap, place it neat a wolfar lair, wait about one day for a popup message, go back to a trap will a pup, pick it up and place it on the kennel.

They're brutally good for the winter onslaught attack. I have one following each of my archers and each of my warriors, and then I have three guarding my chieftain's hut.

You can also set them to guard specific buildings (Including individual wall pieces) and they sleep near them, and attack anything that tries to attack. They'll go and eat on their own at the nearest kennel, or from any meat that drops from things that are skinned. They don't get cold, or need leisure time, and you can heal them by petting them. They sleep, but don't actually need it.

Once you have a fishing hut or a hunter's lodge, you'll have more meat than you could ever possibly need. Eventually, I plan on having one guard every single villager, so that they can't be harassed by wolves or wisps when they go somewhere to gather up supplies.

Aye I know, but in my game, they did not eat. No mattetr if thy ran across some meat on the ground or I threw them something, was just ignored. They all died from starvation. After my meat supply got a bit better, I got few new ones, 2 died from starvation. One runs around the kennel and keeps eating.
I know they guard quite good, but they eat too much or not at all. For now, its more effort then benefit.

In my game they eat if I drop meat in front of them but going like 5 meters to the kennel from the hut they are guarding is impossible for them.

So what's your secret? It seems like the rest of us are suffering from our dogs starving because they don't want to return to the kennel to eat. I just had my first one starve not even a day after setting it to guard a cottage.

I had 2 following my hunters, thinking they would help them and get fed. They both starved to death. I had another guarding my farm which was next to the Kennel. She starved to death as well. It seems they will only eat if they are in your party or guarding the kennel.

I fired the worker. He doesn't do anything, he just sits around stupid. I also just throw meat at my dogs.

I have the same problem. The employee feeds the dogs only fried meat, of which I don't have much. (Soups are mainly prepared). There is a lot of raw meat, but he does not feed dogs with raw meat. The dogs had already died of starvation and they were all tied to the kennel. I didn't assign them a job.

Finally got some dogs. I built the kennel by my main gate "Portal side", and set one to guard the gate. He just starved to death. The other one i set to follow me. He will eat if I stand around raw meat for a second. But he was almost dead on guard duty when I got to him from starvation. I love the dogs. They are a wonderful addition, and the meat cost isn't even that bad so long as they are eating. Just wish they'd actually go and eat.

Dogs are a huge micro-management issue. They eat WAY too much and workers do nothing.

Yeah, what is the secret? I keep seeing everyone say they starve which is why I don't have them guarding anything. It would be great if devs could make it so they would go eat and return to duty but not sure if anyone has actually had success with this?
I also have the same problem, the guy works in the kennel but his role is only to give the dogs food to grow. Later, when the dogs leave the kennel, they don't see the food that is decaying in the kennel because they don't eat it, they die of hunger one by one, I can only pet them or give them tasks, they don't eat!

I have 2 dogs, one is guarding my eye of odin and keeps running back to his kennel to eat or eats the fish of the ground of my fishing hut and the other one is at his kennel. I feed both dogs by myself because the kennelworker did nothing, and since my village is near a wolfs den, I keep hunting wolfs -the wolfs are good meat for my dogs. It is true that they eat a lot and are not really a help when I take them along, but when an invasion comes and I put them in agressive mode, they are quite good in defending the village

Some of them eat way to much, depends on their perks, Cubby he eats a lot, Menace ones eats a lot, Petite it less and are more like a dog (had one that follow me far off from village even he wasn't in a party just to look after me) Fluffy eat less the Cubby and Menace ones but still more then Petite. Also Petite doesn't do much dmg. Not sure if there is any other perks. this is the one I have met so far, most have been Menace and dark fur, now I got a white Fluffy one.
