Villagers Are Moody as fu*k
I work none stop and I work more than them combined and the pathetic villagers keep complaining about work hours. They spend more than half the day sleeping and resting already.

What the heck man? Imma build this city solo at this point..

Villagers need to take a chill pill.

Yep. you turn yourself as a ghost and then choose the laziest villager to die for you to breath again. This way you don't drop your items and inventory to the place of death.

I think I just might go die intentionally by accident..

If you don't have someone to sacrifice to keep skill levels, you can go ghost mode and then revive in your base to get all your loot dropped wherever you revive.

Check their boons. Some comes with a boon that says their mood will decreate if working during the day and increase if works during the night.
All my villagers are happy because for these people I invented nightshift.
Just invert work and sleep hours for nightshift and save it as a template then use the template on night owls.

Sound advice. Thanks~

I had one that was only happy if their schedule was entirely sleep and leisure time. For the most part, I have had success with 8 hours of work (8-1700) and hour of leisure at 0700 and 1800 and sleep for the rest. this worked through winter as well.

I tried this and Some still are not happy and decreasing. And yeah I tried the full sleep + leisure and it worked (of course it did lol)

I've also found that you need to pay attention to whether they have day/night affinities and assign their schedule as such. Anyone with a night affinity is on guard/watchtower duty overnight and everyone works no more than 8 hours in a day. I have managed to keep happiness 98+ with this and a good food supply.

if you give them ONE hour of work... their work hours become negative... they don't like work at all, i typically give them all the same schedule (offset so not EVERYONE is on break at once, and changed slightly depending on daylight/nighttime affinities)

build 3 wood totems around the base as only 3 villages can sit at each one, this increases their happiness, also giving them a cottage (which you can put 12 thatch beds + a fireplace) also increases happiness

whenever the sleep happens, they get 2 hours of leisure when they wake up, 6 hours work, 1 hour leisure, 5 hours work, 3 hours leisure, the rest is sleep, this allows them to always get water, food, and ideally sit at the totem for a little bit

it almost always says mood slightly decreasing even though they never drop below 90, this is also without any defenses

If you have a particularly onerous villager, just assign him to a barracks or watch tower. Being a warrior seems to give a huge boost in morale.

This also includes the archery range.

I typically cycle my villagers through the defensive buildings as their happiness drops. Also has the benefit of giving everyone some combat skill, though it still seems like villagers will get spooked and run if they're not explicitly assigned to a defensive building.

I have mine working 11 hours a day with happiness at 100. No matter their silly traits, I do try to avoid the ones that get sad when it rains as it rains a lot lol.
Some buildings add Happiness to the housing that surrounds them. The happiness provided by a housing building is divided by the amount of those residing within it.
Some want to work nights instead of days.
Defence matters.

My work day schedule is 11 hours of work with 3 leisure hours either side and rest sleep.

See, the housing is probably my issue because I pack those longhouses like sardine cans. If anyone was wondering, You can fit 11 beds and a fireplace in one. lol
