Feedback
Ok, I've done 4 starts up to Iron tools. I find that I'm having the same issue I had with Minecraft villages. I spend so much time servicing the villagers that I can't do anything else. The latest game I have to go and find a mine, but, I can't leave....

1. Tool makers have no tool storage and no way to get tools to the required villagers. Tool makers ONLY use bark to make rope, and I can't drop rope into any inventory for them to access.

2. Farmer wants compost.....huh? nothing labeled as compost; no composters anywhere,;no compost storage....I just don't know.

3. Fire tender/cook doesn't light, extinguish or refuel the fire.

4. There's no way (that I've been able to find) to tell a villager to MAINTAIN a specific commodity at a specific level. Ie, always keep 10 cooked mushrooms in the storage.

5. It appears the cart and sled are only usable by me. The villagers don't seem to use them....

6. The woodsman is responsible for fiber but it's stored in the forager's hut. It doesn't look like the forager loots fiber resources (flax), someone does, not sure who. It looks like the woodsman is supposed to get thatch, but, it's located where foragers go, not where lumberjacks go.

7. Storage is really wonky. If I want lumberjack stuff, I should only have to open a single box. At the moment I have to open 4 different boxes to access lumberjack resources.

I am spending all my time finding resources the villagers can't find, making them new tools and bringing them to them...wherever they happen to be. Can't do any exploring; can't do any monster killing (unless there's a raid...for which I have to be at the village). tool breakage is a real issue. Replacing all my tools every two days (not exaggerating) is really excessive, not to mention resource intensive.

For the moment, I don't think this is the game for me. I'll check back after some patches.

1. wrong, there is a rack on the other side of the workbench, you or the worker put the tools there and the villager take what they need. There are also storage on both sides of the workbench, left side for items like sticks and barks, right side for the small items like rope, feathers and so on (my one also take first the fibre for rope, but yes the eat through your bark storage if there is anymore fibre),

2. yes, the composter thing isn´t well solved. Its not needed for farming, but you get more per harvest. The rotten food is the compost.

3. my one does when they need it (i also have a warehouse with firewood storage, don´t know if they have trouble with the wood cutter shelf).

4. the work order is exact this. When you tell them to make 10 soups of mushrooms they don´t do only 10 soups and never cook it again. They do always when all of the village storages is lower than the 10. Same with tools and other work orders.
But tbh the fireplace for the start is no good food supply, go as fast as possible to the cooking station, that solve all your food problems (or should)

4. Document it; nothing in the in-game wording or documentation says it'll behave anything like that.
3. They make 10 'shrooms and then the recipe is gone and they sit there and let the fire burn out. If I put the order up, they don't refuel the fire nor do they light it up.
1. That's really obscure.....they need to fix the storage, one box for all at a building.

Still too much villager managing and not enough game playing. They definitely need to refine the automation so that the village works if I'm gone 2 or 3 days.

Thank you so much for the feedback, I'll get it noted!

Thunder....thank you for reading it :-)

I'm a retired IT Systems Administrator I know how much work writing a game takes. I hope they can find a functional way to employ the villagers without extraordinary amounts of time managing them. This game has potential if they can get that fixed :-)

This game is a colony sim.. If you approach it with that understanding, you will struggle less... If you set orders up properly, build appropriate warehouse storage, and manage your gathering flags, you should have time to work on your own tasks. Like many games, there is a learning curve, and of course it's still in EA so you're often left with the "am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?" feeling, but we all knew what we signed up for when we clicked buy. Approach everything with a solution mentality and you'll go far.

From what I read it was billed as the next Valheim. It is not. however there is some potential in that direction IF they can get the villagers' automation right.

And, of course, you are right, it is early access. That's why I'm giving them some time to patch things before I try again.

Colony sim but with you doing everybody's job for them.

Villagers are simple. Assign task look at what you need make it high prio and everything else on list low/med. They clear a area pretty fast so you always need to make new markers for them to use. Seasons in game have different items they can get so make sure you handle the prio in task menu. Same with farming different seeds in season to be planted. Tools Are a issue early on but once you get a station and crafter the tools become automated for villagers.

What could perhaps be improved is that you can create your own savegames while playing. Just a save that is constantly being overwritten is not a good solution for me personally. A situation that happened to me. I invested around 11 hours into my game. Then came a bear attack on my village which cost the lives of two of my NPCs, including me. Sacrifice didn't work because there weren't enough people, so the only thing left to do was revive.
In such a situation, I load the game from a different save to find a better solution on how to best defend your village without losing as much as possible. But it doesn't work because you only have ONE save. 11 hours otherwise. Please revise the save system so that you can create several saves yourself.

Which I almost forgot to mention. How about for the map you can put a couple of different map markings on the map. For example, if you are exploring and find an enemy spawn, you can then mark and label it on the map yourself.

Sorry for my English Google Translator is to blame.

Villagers automatically get the best gear available for their work and go about to perform it. As a rule of thumb you never ever need to distribute tools by hand. If you do, you are doing something wrong.
